Clinical Instructor- Medical Education Fellow

Organizational Unit Overview The ECU Department of Emergency Medicine is a vital part of ECU Health, a mission‑driven, 1,708‑bed academic health care system serving more than 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties. ECU Health is a not‑for‑profit system with 13,000 team members, nine hospitals and a physician group that encompasses over 1,100 academic and community providers practicing in more than 185 primary and specialty clinics located in more than 110 locations. The flagship ECU Health Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and ECU Health Maynard Children’s Hospital serve as the primary teaching hospitals for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health and the Brody School of Medicine share a combined academic mission to improve health and well‑being across eastern North Carolina through patient care, education, and research. Job Duties The ECU Emergency Medicine Medical Education Fellowship is designed to develop future leaders in academic emergency medicine by providing a structured, immersive experience in medical education. This fellowship bridges the gap between clinical excellence and educational expertise, equipping fellows with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to excel as educators and mentors in the field of emergency medicine. Create and deliver multiple resident and medical student lectures. Create educational innovations based on their area of interest and submit at least one as a final project to an appropriate educational conference for consideration. Participate in medical student and resident simulation. Provide bedside teaching to learners at both academic and community sites as part of clinical practice for a minimum of five shifts per month. Participate in UME/GME committees. In addition to the above requirements, the department supports the educational development of the fellow by providing the opportunity to take university courses on education in the healthcare professions, attend CORD and SAEM, and participate in the ACEP Teaching Fellowship. Minimum Education/Experience MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution, or completed foreign medical education recognized for ECFMG certification. Board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine. License or Certification Required MD, DO, or foreign equivalent. Eligible for an unrestricted North Carolina medical license.
