Dental Assistant 2 The College of Health Science and Public Health at Eastern Washington University is seeking a skilled and team-oriented applicant for the Dental Assistant 2 position. This 10‑month, fully in‑person role supports the Dental Hygiene Department and the Operations Manager by performing specialized clerical and technical duties to coordinate patient care in the university dental clinic. Location: Spokane, WA. Salary: $43,010 (minimum) up to $49,820 (prorated for 10 months). Responsibilities Communicate professional greetings to patients, visitors, vendors, and students; answer and triage telephone calls; take messages and facilitate appointments. Provide accurate information on financial arrangements, insurance coverage, and billing procedures; maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA). Schedule patient appointments, prepare electronic dental record entries, and manage cancellations and rescheduled visits. Coordinate interpreter services and referrals; maintain and update patient records and special forms. Check patients in and out, verify insurance eligibility, create claims, and process fee payments. Collect and reconcile daily receipts, assist with credit card transactions, and process work orders. Assist in maintaining a clean, professional front office environment and complete routine clerical tasks such as mail delivery and departmental correspondence. Provide basic electronic health record training and support to students and faculty, including password assistance and troubleshooting. Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and communication; maintain a positive attitude in all interactions. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Operations Manager. Required Qualifications Minimum two years as a dental assistant or similar patient‑contact role in a dental clinic. Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) registered with the Washington State Department of Health. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Proficiency with MS Word and intermediate to advanced computer skills. Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, universal accessibility, and diversity. Preferred Qualifications More than two years of experience in a dental assistant role. Experience with third‑party billing of dental procedures. Knowledge of dental terminology. Conditions of Employment Position requires successful completion of a background check (federal and state) and proof of immunization for MMR. The employee must comply with the EWU Immunization Policy and work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
