Job Summary

Responsible for performing advanced tasks in the sterile processing department of a healthcare facility. Essential functions include receiving used medical instruments and equipment from the operating rooms or other departments, loading prepared instruments and equipment into sterilizers, conducting regular quality checks of instruments, equipment, and packaging materials to ensure compliance with sterilization standards, assisting with managing inventory levels, cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting sterilization equipment and instrumentation, and providing guidance and training to less experienced sterile processing technicians.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required. Experience: Experience as a Central Sterile Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting: 1-2 years preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of sterile processing principles, practices, and infection control standards. Familiarity with medical instruments, equipment, and surgical procedures. Proficiency in instrument assembly, packaging, and sterilization techniques. Understanding of sterilization equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Hours: MondayFriday, 7am-3:30pm. Schedule: Rotating weekends and holidays.

The Central Sterile Processing Services (CSPS) department is at the heart of patient care at Mass General Hospital. We play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and effective care by cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, and distributing medical equipment and supplies used in surgeries, procedures, and patient care areas throughout the hospital.
