Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati, Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) is recruiting a full-time Manager to manage the HBC Therapeutic Apheresis service to ensure proper patient care, workflow, and provision of 24-hour and daily nursing coverage. The primary purpose of the position is management of people, assets, serviced programs, projects and fiscal resources, to deliver and administer patient care. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.

Essential Functions

• Manage daily activities and operations of the apheresis service.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of the apheresis unit’s procedures, goals and objectives.
• Responsible for maintaining all nursing care policies and SOPs in compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Communicate appropriately to staff, patients, students, external departments and others as needed. Answer technical and medical questions when appropriate.
• Provide training and education on apheresis procedures for the apheresis RNs/LPNs, medical students, residents, and fellows as it relates to selected automated collections and therapeutic procedures.
• Determine necessity to contact division director or medical director in emergencies.
• Maintain on-call and/or 24-7 nursing coverage.
• Assist with the development of the annual budget and monitor monthly expenses and revenues.
• Serve on various university, division and departmental committees, attend meetings/conferences.
• May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree

Required Trainings/Certifications

• Current valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio and Kentucky.

Required Experience

• Five (5) years of experience in nursing including two (2) years in intensive care, hemodialysis, emergency room, or apheresis.
• Experience must also include at least one (1) year in a supervising role.
