New Graduate Registered Nurse - RN

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: This position is for graduates of an accredited school of Nursing working in a state that does not allow graduates to perform nursing duties until licensed. The specific job title used will be determined based on the state where the employee is employed. Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse while working towards obtaining their nursing license. Employees hired into this position will be required to obtain their nursing license within 90 days of their hire date. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Patient Care Performs vascular access evaluation prior to treatment. Records pre‑ and post‑dialysis evaluations, weight, vital signs and patient identification. Performs vascular access cannulation and reports difficulties or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor. Initiates dialysis according to prescribed orders, including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD). Evaluates intradialytic problems and intervenes as directed by the physician or nurse supervisor. Monitors patients’ response to dialysis therapy, obtains vital signs before reinfusion, and documents all handoffs. Prepares venous access for disconnection, obtains hemostasis and applies appropriate dressings. Assesses patient prior to discharge and documents treatment details in the health record. Maintenance / Technical Conducts all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and documents where appropriate. Maintains environmental integrity and aesthetics, ensuring all areas are safe and clean. Cleans and disinfects dialysis machine surfaces, chair, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments according to facility policy. Performs all required pretreatment dialysis machine set‑up and testing. Ensures that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant per facility policy. Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent waste. Clerical & Administrative Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and in a timely manner. Reviews the health care record for completeness and corrects omitted entries where appropriate. Prepares lab requisitions for prescribed or stat lab specimens according to laboratory destination. Collects, labels, and stores lab samples appropriately, ensuring compliance with laboratory specifications. Ensures lab specimens are collected by an appropriate lab courier. Other Maintains required credentials or certifications in an active and valid status and notifies the supervisor if status changes. Works in a challenging environment requiring multitasking and flexibility. Maintains regular and punctual attendance. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Employees must be able to stand for frequent, prolonged periods, bend over, push and pull equipment up to 15 pounds, lift and lower solutions up to 30 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 40 pounds. The position requires frequent heavy lifting and moving of patients, with the assistance of equipment or coworkers as needed. The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with temperature control and moderate noise levels and may involve exposure to infectious materials. SUPERVISION None Education and Required Credentials Graduated from an accredited nursing program within the past 12 months. Experience and Required Skills Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred. Required to obtain a nursing license within 90 days of employment.
