Job Description

The Mechatronics & Robotics Technician supports the operations and maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated packaging and distribution equipment, including material handling and pneumatic systems throughout a large, highly automated facility. In this role, you diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues, perform predictive and preventative maintenance, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. You also have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise on high-speed automation and robotic equipment while mentoring junior technicians and contributing to a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and lockout practices.

• Perform predictive and preventative maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring all work is properly documented.

• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components.

• Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, including conveyor systems and robotic or electromechanical systems.

• Use diagnostic testing and mechanical troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective repairs.

• Conduct inspections, run diagnostics, and create work orders to address identified maintenance needs on complex systems and industrial equipment.

• Apply knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and schematics to maintain and repair industrial automation equipment.

• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, track work orders, and manage equipment history.

• Track, organize, and store department inventory, tools, and spare parts to support efficient maintenance operations.

• Maintain a positive working relationship across the operations facility and collaborate with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime.

• Mentor junior technicians by sharing knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and supporting their technical development.

• Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, as needed, to support maintenance activities at other facilities or for training.

• Perform metal and wood fabrication tasks as required for equipment repair or modification.

• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to support troubleshooting and installation work.

• Troubleshoot basic input and output functions for automated systems and control equipment.

• Ensure compliance with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and safety guidelines.

• Support project-related maintenance activities and contribute to project planning and execution as needed.

• Lift parts and tools, move equipment, and perform repetitive physical tasks such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, standing, and walking for extended periods.

• Work within small spaces and in environments that may include dust, fumes, hot or cold temperatures, noise, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• At least 2+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.

• Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

• At least 1 year of experience in PC competency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Experience in industrial maintenance or equipment maintenance, particularly on complex systems and industrial equipment.

• Hands-on experience running diagnostics, performing inspections, troubleshooting, repairing, and creating work orders for industrial equipment.

• Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with motors, belts, conveyors, and related components.

• Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls (minimum 2 years preferred).

• Experience in the repair of material handling equipment (minimum 2 years preferred).

• Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance procedures (minimum 2 years preferred).

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics (at least 1 year of experience preferred).

• Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles (at least 1 year of experience preferred).

• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment.

• Familiarity with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety requirements.

• Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions in automated systems.

• Physical ability to lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk for shifts up to 12 hours, and perform repetitive motions such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and manual handling tasks.

• Comfort working in environments that may include dust, fumes, hot or cold temperatures, noise, vibration, and standing on concrete for long periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields is preferred.

• Education from a technical school, apprenticeship, certifications, military training, or hands-on training related to the maintenance field is highly valued.

• 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.

• 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.

• 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.

• 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication.

• 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.

• 1 year of knowledge and application of electrical and electronic principles.

• Experience with Material Handling Equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety standards.

• Project management experience in a maintenance or industrial environment.

• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

• Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.

• Background in distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or industrial environments performing maintenance on complex systems and industrial equipment, especially conveyors.

• Experience from automotive, military, or industrial facilities maintenance environments working on complex systems and equipment.

• Strong industrial maintenance and equipment maintenance skills, including diagnostic testing and preventative maintenance.

• Experience with lockout procedures and other safety-related maintenance practices.

• Comfort with performance metrics and data-driven evaluation of work output.

Work Environment

This is a true contract-to-hire opportunity within a large, high-speed distribution facility featuring advanced automation and extensive robotic components. Positions are available on multiple 10-hour shifts, including schedules such as Sunday–Wednesday (6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., 12:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.) and Wednesday–Saturday (6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., 12:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.). All candidates must be open to working any 10-hour shift, including weekends, nights, and holidays. The environment requires walking approximately 10,000 steps per day and standing on concrete floors for extended periods. You work around material handling equipment, conveyors, and robotic systems in conditions that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures (inside and outside), noise, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces. Physical demands include repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking, as well as lifting parts and tools averaging 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity are important for tasks involving foot pedals, manual picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion. Performance is tracked through data and metrics, providing clear visibility into expectations and results without micromanagement, and you work within a structured, safety-focused environment that leverages modern maintenance tools and systems.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.11 - $30.11/hr.
