COMPENSATION
Base: $220,000--$320,000
Lower end for candidates with ~3 years of practice; higher end for those with more BigLaw experience or prior in-house roles at tech/life sciences companies.
Plus: Equity (competitive; specific amount not disclosed)

WHY THIS ROLE
This is a rare opportunity to be the first in-house legal hire at a well-funded, fast-growing AI startup at the intersection of artificial intelligence and life sciences research. You won't be joining an existing legal team — you'll build the function from scratch, serve as the company's primary deal counsel on commercial agreements with top pharma and biotech organizations, and have a direct seat at the table across finance, compliance, and company strategy. At $220K–$320K base plus equity, the compensation is structured to compete with BigLaw while delivering the autonomy and upside that BigLaw cannot. Visa sponsorship is available for all types, including H-1B and TN transfers — a genuine differentiator at this stage and seniority.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll be the company's sole legal resource, advising the deal team in real time on complex commercial contracts with major life sciences customers, building internal legal infrastructure from the ground up (templates, playbooks, processes), and flexing into broader operational work across finance, compliance, and company-building. This is a high-agency role for a lawyer who wants to operate well beyond the boundaries of a traditional legal function.

REQUIREMENTS
Experience: 3–10 years of legal practice (BigLaw or in-house) with hands-on commercial contracting experience (MSAs, customer agreements, tech transactions)
• JD from an accredited law school
• Active bar admission in California (strongly preferred) or New York
• Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity and high-agency decision-making
• Willingness to flex into operations, finance, and company-building work beyond pure legal
Preferred:
• Prior in-house experience at a tech or life sciences company
• Background in pharma/biotech commercial transactions
Tech Stack: AI tools for contract review
Bar Admission: California (strongly preferred) or New York
