Speech Language Pathologist (Outpatient) - Ochsner Neuroscience Institute

Job functions autonomously to deliver speech therapy treatment, either through referral or direct to consumer. Evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, assesses patients, and monitors progress toward treatment goals. Ensures patient needs are met through access to care, patient experience, and quality of care metrics. Assists in program development and enhancement to meet patient and community needs. Contents are subject to change at the company’s discretion. Responsibilities Perform evaluations and provide treatment programs to facilitate patient‑specific goals. Assess the patient’s response to treatment and recommend plan changes as appropriate. Maintain patient records according to documentation standards, policies, and procedures. Attain established productivity levels set forth by administration, including access to care, patient experience, and quality. Assist in program development and enhancement to meet patient and community needs. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, mode of introduction, adapting explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Master’s degree in speech‑language pathology. Work Experience None required. Certifications Current speech‑pathologist license in the state of practice. Eligibility for licensure by examination. Reciprocity from another state. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA) required within 2 years of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Excellent judgment and decision‑making skills to deal with a variety of patients and diagnoses. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to remain flexible with fluctuating schedules based on patient demand. Physical and Environmental Demands Very heavy work – exerts in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly. Physical demands exceed those for heavy work and are in excess of those for sedentary work. Duties require walking or standing, and may include pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls, or pushing and pulling of materials at a continuous production pace, even when the weight of those materials is negligible. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area and directly with patients, and/or works with specimens containing communicable diseases. There is an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. The incumbent may also work with hazardous medications or hazardous waste, increasing the risk of exposure.
