The Medical Director is accountable for clinical outcomes, physician leadership, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and the advancement of the PACE care model across all service locations. In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, PACE Executive Director, Senior Clinical Services Director, and the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), the Medical Director promotes evidence-based, value-driven care. This role also serves as the primary physician representative to organizational leadership, community providers, hospitals, regulatory agencies, and governing bodies. How You’ll Make an Impact Physician Leadership & Clinical Governance Serve as the senior physician leader for the PACE program.Serve as the physician representative to executive leadership, governing bodies, and external healthcare partners.Establish a network of specialty and consultative physicians to support participant care.Promote innovation and best practices in geriatric medicine, palliative care, and population health management.Establish and maintain standards of medical practice, clinical protocols, and evidence-based care guidelines. Provide clinical leadership and oversight for participant care, medical services, and physician practice standards. Administrative Leadership & Clinical Governance Partner with the PACE Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer to ensure delivery of high-quality participant care.Coordinate and supervise the work of physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical providers.Partner with Human Resources in the selection and clinical integration of contract physicians and medical providers and provide ongoing professional leadership and support.Chair physician meetings and participate in organizational, medical staff, and corporate committees.Maintain physician coverage and medical oversight during PACE operating hours.Represent the organization at local, state, regional, and national professional forums.Partner with organizational leadership to advise on strategic initiatives, program growth, operational excellence, and quality outcomes. Interdisciplinary Team Leadership Lead physician engagement within the interdisciplinary team model.Participate actively in IDT meetings and care planning discussions.Promote effective collaboration among physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members.Provide clinical consultation, support care planning, and guide interdisciplinary teams in managing complex participant needs. Clinical Care Responsibilities Serve as a primary care physician for PACE participants as assigned.Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new participants.Establish and maintain clinic schedules to provide direct participant care.Provide direct medical care in PACE centers, participant homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and other care settings as needed. Implement preventive care programs and chronic disease management initiatives.Ensure coordinated, comprehensive care across all settings, including participant enrollment, care transitions, hospitalizations, and long-term care services. Maintain accountability for participant clinical outcomes and quality of care. Implement processes to capture diagnoses and support appropriate risk adjustment documentation accurately.Assist in securing and reviewing medical records necessary for participant care.Provide medical staff coverage during provider absences when needed. Quality Improvement and Clinical Outcomes Oversee the PACE Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program.Partner with clinical leadership to implement quality improvement initiatives.Promote cost-effective prescribing and evidence-based resource utilization. Ensure continuous improvement of clinical documentation quality and accuracy. Support organizational readiness for quality audits and regulatory reviews.Lead quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance participant outcomes, safety, satisfaction, clinical performance, and resource utilization. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight Oversee clinical documentation standards and medical record integrity.Provide medical leadership during audits, investigations, and corrective action planning. Develop, review, and maintain medical policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.Educate and monitor medical staff regarding regulatory requirements and compliance responsibilities.Promote organizational adherence to ethical standards and fraud, waste, and abuse prevention programs.Provide medical leadership for regulatory compliance, accreditation activities, surveys, audits, investigations, and corrective action planning. Provider Relations & Community Engagement Promote referrals and strengthen community partnerships serving frail older adults.Represent the organization in professional associations and healthcare networks.Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, specialists, hospitals, long-term care facilities, referral sources, and community partners to support participant care and program growth. Education, Research & Professional Development Promote professional development, clinical education, research initiatives, and knowledge sharing to support excellence in participant care and PACE operations. Present educational programs, quality initiatives, and research findings at professional meetings and conferences. Serve as a clinical resource for providers and interdisciplinary teams. System-Wide Clinical Oversight Provide medical leadership across all PACE centers and service locations.Focus on clinical quality, provider engagement, care model advancement, and participant outcomes rather than daily operational management.Ensure consistency of clinical practice standards across sites.Support organizational readiness for future growth, expansion, and innovation.Advise executive leadership on emerging healthcare trends, population health strategies, and clinical innovations.Performs all other duties as assigned. What You’ll Bring To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.Fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine, preferred.Eligible for and maintains medical staff privileges at affiliated hospitals within the PACE service area.Minimum three (3) years of physician clinical practice experience, including at least one (1) year caring for frail elderly and/or medically complex populations.Previous leadership, supervisory, or Medical Director experience preferred. Experience in managed care, value-based care, population health, geriatrics, palliative care, or PACE programs preferred. Must be insurable under the organization's professional liability (medical malpractice) insurance program. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine DEA registration and prescribing authority as required.Unrestricted Active Florida Medical License. BLS/ACLS Certification as required by organizational policy.Valid Florida driver's license and automobile insurance in accordance with organizational policy.
