Education & Outdoor Equity Manager (Elementary)

The Education & Outdoor Equity Manager (Elementary) is responsible for the leadership, management, and continuous improvement of TreePeople's elementary school environmental education programs, including the Eco-Tours program and related school-greening education initiatives. This position oversees program implementation, staff supervision, grant deliverables, program evaluation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure high-quality, equitable, and impactful educational experiences for students across Los Angeles County.

Working closely with the Senior Manager, Education & Outdoor Equity, this role leads a team of educators and coordinators while fostering strong partnerships with schools, districts, community organizations, and funders. The Manager ensures programs align with organizational goals, educational best practices, equity commitments, and grant requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Management

• Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of TreePeople's

elementary education programs, including Eco-Tours and school greening education

offerings.

• Develop and manage annual program work plans, timelines, goals, and performance

metrics.

• Ensure timely completion of grant deliverables, contractual obligations, and reporting

requirements.

• Oversee equitable program distribution across organizational and funder priority regions.
• Monitor program quality, effectiveness, and participant outcomes through ongoing

evaluation and continuous improvement processes.

• Collaborate with organizational leadership to identify opportunities for program growth,

innovation, and increased community impact.

Staff Supervision & Team Development

• Supervise, mentor, and support Elementary Team staff to achieve program goals and

deliver high-quality educational experiences.

• Establish clear performance expectations, professional development goals, and

accountability measures for team members.

• Conduct regular coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action processes

when necessary.

• Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture that supports staff

engagement, development, and retention.

• Recruit, hire, onboard, and train new team members as needed.

Program Evaluation & Reporting

• Lead annual program assessments and evaluation efforts for the Eco-Tours program

and related educational initiatives.

• Oversee data collection, quality assurance, analysis, and reporting processes.
• Ensure timely and accurate entry of program data and documentation by team

members.

• Prepare and review reports, narratives, and supporting documentation for funders,

leadership, and external stakeholders.

• Utilize evaluation findings to inform program improvements and demonstrate

organizational impact.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

• Manage program budgets and expenditures in partnership with departmental leadership.
• Complete quarterly budget reconciliations and support financial forecasting, reporting,

and expense tracking.

• Maintain and improve program systems, workflows, and standard operating procedures

(SOPs).

• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and risk

management protocols.

• Track required staff certifications, trainings, and compliance requirements, including

Mandated Reporter, Wilderness First Aid, Outdoor Leadership, and LiveScan

Clearances.

Partnership Development & Community Engagement

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with school districts, educators, community-

based organizations, and other key stakeholders.

• Support outreach and engagement strategies that expand access to programs and

advance educational equity goals.

• Represent TreePeople at meetings, conferences, community events, fundraising

activities, and public engagements.

• Deliver presentations and facilitate workshops for diverse audiences.
• Collaborate across departments to strengthen organizational impact and visibility
• Contribute to special projects, cross-departmental initiatives, and organizational events

as assigned.

• Prepare professional correspondence, memoranda, presentations, and other

communications.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Education, Education, Environmental Science,

Natural Resources, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of

education and experience.

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing environmental education, youth

development, outdoor education, or related programs.

• Demonstrated experience supervising staff, managing projects, and coordinating

multiple priorities simultaneously.

• Knowledge of environmental education best practices, including Next Generation

Science Standards (NGSS), place-based education, experiential learning, and social-

emotional learning.

• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive educational practices.
• Understanding of environmental issues affecting diverse communities throughout

Southern California, including urban forestry, climate resilience, water resources, and

green infrastructure solutions.

• Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Asana, and other

cloud-based systems.

• Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel

throughout Los Angeles County.

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
• Experience working with K-12 school districts and public education systems.
• Experience managing grant-funded programs and reporting requirements.
• Familiarity with outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and community

engagement programs.
