Certified Surgical Technologist

Certified Surgical Technologist – Full Time – Olathe Hospital. Position Summary The Surgical Technologist, under the direction of the Registered Nurse and the Nurse Manager, prepares the operating room, ensures equipment functions safely, and provides surgical assistance throughout procedures. The role requires knowledge of surgical processes, anticipation of the surgeon’s needs, and maintenance of sterility to support high‑quality patient care. Responsibilities and Essential Functions Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures. Ensure surgical equipment is functioning properly and safely. Prepare supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique. Assist during the surgical procedure, including placing sterile drapes, participating in the time‑out process, and anticipating team needs. Prepare and pass instruments, supplies, medications, and hemostatic agents to the surgeon (excluding drug administration). Sponges and suctions the surgical site, prepares and cuts suture material, and supplies irrigation solutions. Connect drains to suction apparatus and perform instrument, sponge, needle, and supply counts with a registered nurse circulator. Provide patient care by applying sterile dressings, assisting with patient transfer and positioning, and maintaining sterility and safety. Identify and correct breaches in the sterile field, ensuring the highest standard of sterile technique. Support team performance through communication, ownership, and continuous improvement. Execute and support clinical and technical competencies within the unit or department, adapting as required for changing duties. Education & Experience High‑school graduate or equivalent; plus one of the following: Certificate or Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology. Three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in lieu of the certificate or degree requirement. Licensure and Certification Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) – American Heart Association (AHA). Respirator Fit Test – University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) upon hire.
