Position Overview The Senior Operations Manager (Sr. OM) is the operational leader accountable for how well every depot in their market runs. You will lead a team of depot-based Operations Managers and the frontline organization beneath them; Operations Associates, Shift Supervisors, Service Agents, and Lead Drivers. Ensuring Alto consistently delivers a safe, exceptional, and reliable experience for members and drivers alike. The mandate is optimization before expansion. Your first job is to make the depots you already have run better: tighter execution, more consistent performance depot to depot, lower cost per hour of supply, and fewer surprises. Growth follows a market that runs well, and you will help make yours ready for it, but a strong Sr. OM is measured first on the operation in front of them. Your manager owns market P&L structure, strategy, and expansion decisions. You are expected to bea strong and well-informed voice in those conversations, bringing depot-level evidence your manager cannot see from above. You will also partner closely with Recruiting, Growth, Finance, Human Resources, and Strategy. Success in this role requires sharp business acumen, strong people leadership, technical and data fluency, and a builder mindset with a relentless drive for excellence. This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across Alto and a direct path to higher-level opportunities. Long-distance Travel Requirements: Where you Own, and where you support: The Senior Operations Manager Owns Standardize depot-level execution and continuous improvement across your market Operations Manager and Operations Associate development, performance, and bench strength Fleet availability, maintenance, and uptime Responsible for ensuring Driver shifts are fulfilled based on forecasted supply hours Safety standards, incident response, and day-to-day compliance execution Cost performance against the approved budget The Senior Operations Manager is expected to actively influence market decisions—not wait on them. This means bringing depot-level evidence, proposing changes, and building a clear business case. Final accountability for these decisions remains with the Director of Operations. Why this role Real operating ownership: You are accountable for the performance of every depot in your market — the fleet, the drivers, the cost, the safety record, and the rider experience. Build leaders, not dependents: The clearest measure of your success is whether your Operations Managers and Associates can run their depots without you in the room. You will be given the room to build that. A voice above your level: You sit in the strategy, budget, and expansion conversations with your manager. What you bring from the depot floor shapes them. Optimization that scales: The playbook you build to run your market well is the one the next market inherits. Alto is growing, and this is where the operating standard gets set. You will: Own depot performance: Be fully accountable for the operational, safety, and customer experience performance of every depot in your market, and for continuous improvement against it. In Uber-partnership markets that means utilization, breakage, vehicle readiness, grounded percentage, cost control, and supply hours; in Alto markets, occupancy, no-vehicle-available (NVA) rates, and cancellations. Develop independent Operations Managers and Associates: Build a bench of leaders who own their depots outright. Set clear performance expectations, run a consistent coaching and review cadence, delegate real decisions with real consequences, and progressively remove yourself as the escalation point. Your OMs and OAs should be able to diagnose a problem, choose a fix, and deliver a result without needing direction to do it. Hold depots to one standard: Define and enforce a consistent operating standard across every location in your market, so member experience, safety, and cost performance do not vary by depot or by shift. Think deeply, act decisively: Continuously analyze depot and market performance to identify root causes, challenge assumptions, and take swift action grounded in clear, evidence-based insight rather than instinct. Deliver against the market budget: Own cost performance for driver labor and Operations & Support staff against an approved budget, forecast expenses accurately, and identify cost reductions that do not compromise the quality of the experience. Partner with your Director on how that budget is built and where the targets land. Own fleet performance: Own fleet availability, maintenance, and uptime across your depots — ensuring grounded vehicles do not limit supply hours, utilization, or revenue growth. Own safety and compliance execution: Hold accountability for driving-behavior standards, incident response, and risk exposure in your market. Partner with Human Resources to uphold all labor policies and legal requirements, maintain accurate documentation, and keep your market fully compliant at all times. Contribute to market strategy: Bring depot-level insight into the manager’s strategy, budget, and expansion planning, and translate the resulting plan into execution your teams can deliver. Build for what comes next: Turn what works in your market into repeatable frameworks — playbooks, cadences, and training that support change adoption locally and travel to new depots and markets as Alto grows. What you bring to the table: 7+ years of progressive, hands-on operations leadership experience preferably in fleet, logistics, or another high-volume service environment. 3+ years leading people managers. Including managers accountable for their own site, depot, or facility and large frontline teams (100+ employees). A demonstrated track record of developing frontline managers into independent operators who deliver without close supervision. Multi-site or multi-facility operating experience, with the judgment to hold distributed locations to a single standard. Proven ownership of cost performance against a budget, with strong instincts for balancing growth, efficiency, and quality. Measurable results improving an existing operation, throughput, cost, quality, safety, or all four not only running one in steady state. Demonstrated experience in a safety-critical operating environment, including incident response and regulatory or labor compliance. Data-driven operator with fluency in performance metrics, forecasting, and the tools that inform operational planning and decision-making. Experience in high-growth, fast-changing environments, comfortable navigating shifting priorities without losing momentum. A hands-on leader who earns credibility through direct involvement and execution, not just oversight. This is a fully onsite leadership role requiring daily engagement with teams and operations. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience leading multi-site operations. We prefer Experience improving performance in a complex, high-volume operation, with measurable gains in areas such as cost, quality, safety, service, or productivity. Experience leading teams through growth, change, or operational transformation, including scaling teams, expanding capacity, launching new operations, or implementing new processes. A demonstrated track record of developing talent and building leadership bench strength, including preparing direct reports for greater responsibility or promotion.
