Job Title: Assembler Job Description
The Assembler builds commercial and industrial electrical units by assembling parts, components, and subassemblies according to work instructions, designs, and schematics. This role works closely with the engineering team to understand how each unit should be assembled and completes assemblies from start to finish using hand and power tools in an independent work area.
Responsibilities
You join a smaller, close-knit shop that offers a laid-back environment and the chance to grow your career into areas such as sales, higher-level assembly, painting, welding, or fabrication. The role offers a 90-day contract-to-union pathway with a local union that provides structured progression, including a 3% annual raise each July. Work Environment
This position is based in a smaller shop environment with approximately 10-15 employees, fostering a collaborative and personable atmosphere. The work is performed on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of up to one additional hour per day on a voluntary basis. The facility is not temperature-controlled, so conditions can become warmer during the summer months, and there may be strong paint fumes at times. The role requires standing for the majority of the shift and performing physical activities such as kneeling and bending. Steel-toed boots are required as part of the dress code, and you may wear one headphone while working, subject to safety guidelines. The work area is equipped with hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and materials for assembling and fabricating sheet metal and electrical components.

The Assembler builds commercial and industrial electrical units by assembling parts, components, and subassemblies according to work instructions, designs, and schematics. This role works closely with the engineering team to understand how each unit should be assembled and completes assemblies from start to finish using hand and power tools in an independent work area.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and piece parts, components, and subassemblies to produce commercial and industrial electrical units according to daily work instructions.
- Position, gather, and arrange parts for proper assembly, verifying fit and tolerances to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Work independently in an assigned work area and complete assembly units from start to finish using hand and power tools.
- Interpret and follow work instructions, designs, blueprints, and electrical schematics to assemble units correctly.
- Mount assembled components such as transformers, panel boards, capacitors, circuit breakers, and switches into cabinets and enclosures.
- Assemble and fabricate sheet metal parts and integrate them into the overall unit structure.
- Use torque tools and other equipment to properly fasten and secure components according to specifications.
- Measure and verify dimensions using a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch to maintain precise tolerances.
- Handle units of varying sizes, including larger cabinets that may be approximately 7 feet tall by 6 feet wide.
- Lift, move, and position components and assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds as part of the build process.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area while standing for the majority of the shift and performing tasks that require kneeling, bending, and reaching.
- Collaborate with leads and the engineering team to clarify instructions and resolve assembly issues as needed.
- Minimum of 1 year of assembly experience in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical and electrical components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, designs, and schematics accurately.
- Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch and apply precise measurements during assembly.
- Proficiency using hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, and related equipment.
- Proficiency using power tools and torque tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and complete full assembly units from start to finish.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing for the entire shift, kneeling, bending, and other repetitive movements.
- Comfort working in an environment that may include strong paint fumes and non-temperature-controlled conditions.
- Reliability to work a Monday through Friday first-shift schedule.
- Experience assembling electrical cabinets or similar industrial electrical equipment.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and mounting electrical components such as transformers, panel boards, capacitors, circuit breakers, and switches.
- Experience working in a smaller shop environment with close collaboration across teams.
