The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Shreveport, LA, has an immediate opening for a full-time, Chief of Primary Care Physician. Shreveport is situated on the Red River in northwest Louisiana. Commonly known as the 'Ark-La-Tex', the point where Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas meet. Highlights of this position include:

The Chief, Primary Care Service is responsible for developing a comprehensive Primary Care/Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) program for the medical management and education of patients. The Chief is also responsible for the training program for all phases of Primary Care approved for this Medical Center. The incumbent plans, implements, directs, and evaluates the activities of the Service, including requirements for staffing, budget, equipment, and supplies. Although activities are carried out with the assistance of subordinates, the Chief is ultimately responsible for the success and fulfillment of the overall vision and mission of the program. The incumbent is responsible to the Chief of Staff for the overall management of Primary Care.

• Competitive Starting Salary $320,000 - $350,000

• Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm

• Accurately interprets and evaluates clinical data to determine diagnoses and clinical status. Provides guidance as supervising physician for determining diagnosis and clinical status.

• Recognizes changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent aspects of patient status and modifies treatment plans when indicated. Demonstrates awareness of personal capabilities and limitations.

• Demonstrates leadership in planning, organizing, and coordinating administrative, clinical, and educational programs.

• Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate decisions based on available information and accepts responsibility for these decision.

• Demonstrates adherence to professional responsibilities. Completes assignments and keeps appointments reliably.

• Completes clinical documentation promptly and thoroughly. Maintains clear, accurate, and current clinical records in accordance with hospital regulations.

• Serves as a mentor and teacher for Primary Care staff, residents, trainees, students, and other employees. Plans and guides educational activities to meet individual learner needs.

• Encourages staff to identify researchable problems. Selects, develops, and conducts literature reviews on topics relevant to Veterans' healthcare with reasonable expectation of successful outcomes.

• Ensures acceptable standards of patient care. Directs and implements processes and programs necessary to maintain accreditation and other standards.

• Communicates respectfully. Ensures patient/family understanding. Explains policies and procedures clearly. Involves patients in care planning as appropriate.

• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree

• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

• Completed Residency Training or soon to be completed residency training

• Preferred Experience: Board Certification in area of training and previous supervisory experience.
