Safety Coordinator
Position Summary/Objective:
This is a highly responsible administrative and field-focused position that supports the implementation and maintenance of safety programs across the organization. The Safety Coordinator performs a variety of complex and diverse tasks requiring confidentiality, discretion, independent judgment, initiative, and strong organizational skills. This role provides administrative and on-site support to the CFO, field supervisors, and operational teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and the promotion of a safe work environment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Create monthly toolbox talks. Track and record signatures of completion.
- Organize, schedule, and track all safety-related trainings, including OSHA, MSHA, Forklift, and Telehandler certifications.
- Provide task-specific trainings, including rigging and crane pick procedures.
- Generate and distribute required safety reports, including OSHA 300A and MSHA documentation.
- Prepare and submit the OSHA 300 log in accordance with annual reporting deadlines.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations; document findings and implement corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary contact for First Reports of Injury (FROI) and oversee the full incident reporting and follow-up process.
- Stay current with OSHA regulations and safety standards relevant to the industry.
- Maintain all DOT employee records.
- Perform regular safety inspections and walk-throughs at job sites to ensure safe work practices.
- Review and update safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the company Safety Manual as needed.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory safety standards.
- Collaborate with leadership and field teams to foster and promote a strong safety-first culture throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with internal team members, regulatory agencies, clinics, and medical/testing facilities to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Promote active participation in the companys safety program and local incident prevention initiatives, with the goal of reducing at-risk behaviors and enhancing employee engagement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT and other relevant federal and state safety regulations.
- Knowledge of proper documentation, filing systems, and electronic recordkeeping practices.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software applications.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of modern telecommunication devices and smart devices.
- Proficient in basic math, grammar, business writing, and accurate typing.
- Proficient with basic operation of computers, printers, copiers, scanners, smart devices, and other office equipment.
- Ability to accurately enter, manage, and retrieve data using spreadsheets and database software.
- Ability to problem-solve, troubleshoot, and work through routine challenges.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, external agencies, vendors, and the general public.
- Ability to manage time efficiently, adapt to shifting priorities, and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
- Ability to interpret and follow complex instructions, manuals, regulations, and technical documents.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential information and sensitive issues.
- Ability to multitask effectively while managing safety programs, documentation, and field communications.
- Strong customer service, telephone, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement in safety practices.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in construction or a related industry with safety responsibilities is preferred.
- OSHA 30 or equivalent is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk and conduct inspections at various job sites, including uneven terrain and outdoor environments.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk and utilizing a computer.
