Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance and repairs on production equipment, including conveyors, ovens, and freezers, to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to strict food industry safety and quality standards while supporting a clean and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment such as conveyors, ovens, and freezers to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot and repair motors, conveyors, belts, pneumatic systems, and other mechanical components to restore equipment to proper working condition.
• Use diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturers instructions, and engineering specifications to diagnose issues and determine appropriate repair methods.
• Remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
• Inspect and examine the form, texture, and condition of parts for signs of wear or damage and determine whether repair or replacement is required.
• Maintain equipment, parts, and supply inventories to ensure necessary materials are available for maintenance and repair activities.
• Follow and comply with food industry Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Quality Assurance standards, and safe work practices at all times.
• Complete accurate documentation and record keeping related to maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and inventory usage.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment, including proper handling and storage of tools, parts, and equipment.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and suggesting maintenance or process improvements.
• Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as needed, in accordance with training and certification requirements.
• Work effectively with production and other teams, communicating equipment status and coordinating maintenance activities to reduce production impact.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of technical education or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical fields.
• Hands-on experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production or industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, including motors, conveyors, belts, and related components.
• Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and the ability to diagnose and repair issues.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturers instructions, and engineering specifications.
• Prior experience or training in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, with willingness to maintain or renew certification.
• Forklift operation experience with prior certification, with willingness to re-certify as required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with team members.
• Strong attendance and reliability, with the ability to consistently complete full shifts.
• Ability to stand and walk for 8 or more hours per day.
• Ability to work at heights using ladders and lifts safely.
• Ability to tolerate hot and cold temperatures, including time spent in cold storage areas and near ovens.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and perform repetitive hand motions for an 8+ hour shift.
• Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds, including occasional overhead lifting and reaching.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• History as a maintenance technician in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and schedules.
• Familiarity with food industry standards, including GMPs and Quality Assurance practices.
• Comfort working with hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools for part removal and installation.
• Strong attention to detail when examining parts for wear or damage.
• Ability to maintain organized equipment, parts, and supply inventories.
• Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a clean work area.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility that operates equipment such as conveyors, ovens, and freezers, requiring regular movement throughout the plant. The environment includes both hot areas near ovens and cold storage spaces, so you will work in varying temperature conditions. The position is physically active, involving standing, walking, bending, twisting, overhead reaching, and repetitive hand motions for 8 or more hours per shift, as well as lifting loads of approximately 50 pounds. You will use tools and equipment such as hoists, cranes, hand tools, power tools, and forklifts while following established safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout. The facility follows food industry GMPs and Quality Assurance standards, and you are expected to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workspace in line with these practices.

This is a Permanent position based out of Prior Lake, MN.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $60000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
