Assistant Professor Of Criminal Justice

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities include teaching required undergraduate and graduate courses in criminal justice in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, including in the M.S. in Criminal Justice program, along with elective courses aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. KSU uses a differentiated workload model. The baseline teaching workload is 9 credit hours (i.e., 3 courses) per semester. Teach courses across varying modalities (face-to-face, hybrid and online) and class sizes (including large class sizes) on the Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses. Maintain a productive, high-impact program of research and scholarship. Pursue external funding in support of research and scholarly activity. Engage and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research that supports their academic and professional development. Contribute service to the department, college and university. Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated training and expertise in the criminal justice system, as evidenced by graduate coursework, publications, and/or presentations. Demonstrated experience teaching criminal justice courses and/or data analytics/statistics, or demonstrated preparation to do so. Demonstrated productivity in research and scholarship, as evidenced by publications, presentations and/or scholarly work.

Preferred qualifications include a substantive research agenda in one or more subfields: policing, data analytics & visualization, criminal justice policy. Demonstrated potential for, or a record of, securing external research funding. Ability to teach courses that serve undergraduate and graduate Criminal Justice programs. Demonstrated record of effective teaching across multiple modalities (face-to-face, online and hybrid).
