Senior System Safety Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior System Safety Engineer to join us on the Naval Powers (NP) System Safety team.

As a Senior System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
• Performing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer's approved equivalent
• Coordinating with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
• Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
• Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Performing System Safety Program, Hazard analyses or Design analyses
• Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a Bachelor's in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience with System Safety Engineering with Software or Firmware Engineering or Electrical Engineering experience.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience in weapon combat systems
• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs
• Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
• Experience solving complex problems by leveraging available resources and research material
• Experience with written, verbal and presentation skills
• Interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
• Master's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
