Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview Our practice emphasizes high quality care, compassion, and fun. We provide comprehensive veterinary services including in‑house laboratory, laser therapy, digital X‑ray, oncology, dental prophylaxis, ultrasound, and surgical services. Externship Program An externship experience at West Mountain Animal Hospital offers veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Responsibilities Gathering patient histories Performing physical examinations Creating treatment plans Performing diagnostics Providing dental services Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures Managing medical care for patients Practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Qualifications Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for an externship. Travel/living expense stipend available to eligible students.
