Data Center Fuel System Superintendent

Description

The Data Center Fuel System Superintendent provides onsite leadership for fuel-system construction projects, with primary responsibility for the safe, timely, and quality installation of fuel storage tanks, piping, electrical systems, controls, monitoring equipment, and related project materials.

The Superintendent determines daily field priorities based on the project schedule, approved drawings, project requirements, management direction, and customer needs. This position directly supervises JF Petroleum Group field employees and coordinates onsite subcontractors, vendors, testing agencies, and startup representatives.

The position may oversee underground storage tank and aboveground storage tank installations and the mechanical, electrical, controls, and related systems directly associated with the fuel system. The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager, who retains responsibility for contract administration, project financial management, and formal change-order processing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Field Supervision and Coordination

· Provide direct daily supervision of JF Petroleum Group field employees and onsite subcontractors.

· Supervise the installation of fuel storage tanks, piping systems, electrical systems, controls, monitoring equipment, and related project materials.

· Coordinate underground and aboveground fuel-system installation activities as required by the project.

· Determine daily work priorities based on the project schedule, approved drawings, available materials, site conditions, management direction, and customer requirements.

· Communicate daily work requirements, safety expectations, and installation priorities to employees and subcontractors.

· Coordinate petroleum installers, electricians, equipment operators, subcontractors, vendors, testing agencies, and startup technicians.

· Coordinate with the Project Manager, customer, general contractor, and other onsite representatives regarding project progress, site conditions, inspections, scheduling, and issues affecting the work.

· Maintain professional communication with customers, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.

· Identify drawing conflicts, field conditions, missing information, or potential delays and report them promptly to the Project Manager.

· Do not direct or perform work outside the approved project scope without authorization from the Project Manager.

· Direct and coordinate the daily work of assigned field employees and subcontractors.

· Provide clear instructions, coaching, training, and performance feedback.

· Monitor attendance, work quality, productivity, safety compliance, and professional conduct.

· Review employee timecards for accuracy and verify time is assigned to the correct project and work activity.

· Notify the appropriate manager of employee performance, attendance, safety, or conduct concerns.

· Promote accountability, teamwork, respect, and professional conduct on the job site.

Fuel System Installation

· Supervise tank installation activities, including excavation coordination, bedding, tank placement, anchoring, piping, containment systems, backfill, equipment installation, and startup.

· Coordinate crane access, tank unloading, rigging, lifting, and tank-setting activities.

· Verify tanks, piping, equipment, and related materials are installed according to approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and project requirements.

· Supervise installation of fuel-product piping, vent piping, fill piping, suction or pressure piping, day-tank piping, and related fuel-system components.

· Verify proper installation of pumps, valves, leak-detection equipment, tank-monitoring systems, sensors, emergency shutdowns, fuel controls, and related equipment.

· Coordinate electrical power, conduit, wiring, controls, grounding, bonding, equipment connections, and emergency-shutdown requirements associated with the fuel system.

· Confirm fuel-system components are compatible with the product stored and the approved project design.

· Protect tanks, piping, coatings, electrical components, controls, and equipment from damage during construction.

· Confirm underground systems are properly documented and inspected before they are covered or backfilled.

Plans Specifications and Code Compliance

· Read and understand applicable drawings, specifications, approved submittals, equipment schedules, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, and manufacturer instructions.

· Verify field installation work follows the current approved construction documents.

· Maintain current drawings onsite and clearly identify field changes for record-drawing and as-built purposes.

· Understand and enforce applicable environmental regulations and fire, building, electrical, and fuel-system requirements.

· Coordinate questions or conflicts involving drawings, specifications, or installation requirements with the Project Manager.

· Participate in inspections with fire, building, electrical, environmental, or other regulatory authorities as required.

Scheduling and Meetings

· Assist in developing, maintaining, and communicating the project schedule.

· Prepare short-term work plans for employees, subcontractors, equipment, materials, inspections, testing, and startup activities.

· Monitor daily progress and promptly report conditions that may affect the project schedule.

· Lead or participate in preconstruction, daily pre-task planning, safety, progress, coordination, inspection, testing, commissioning, and project closeout meetings as applicable.

Quality Control Testing and Commissioning

· Monitor installation quality and correct deficient or incomplete work before systems are covered, backfilled, energized, or placed into service.

· Verify required tests and inspections are completed and documented.

· Coordinate applicable tank, piping, containment, electrical, controls, monitoring, sensor, emergency-shutdown, and operational testing.

· Coordinate with testing contractors, electricians, equipment manufacturers, startup technicians, inspectors, and commissioning representatives.

· Track inspection deficiencies and punch-list items through completion.

· Assist with system startup, commissioning, owner training, and final turnover.

· Confirm tanks, piping, valves, panels, controls, fill points, and emergency equipment are properly labeled and identified.

Project Documentation

· Maintain accurate daily project records.

· Document employees and subcontractors onsite, work completed, equipment used, deliveries, testing, inspections, safety activities, visitors, delays, changed conditions, schedule impacts, and issues requiring Project Manager follow-up.

· Maintain clear photographs of daily progress, underground installations, equipment identification, testing, inspections, and completed work.

· Maintain inspection reports, test results, delivery tickets, startup reports, and other required project records.

· Use Procore or other company-approved systems for daily reports, photographs, drawings, RFIs, inspections, observations, and punch-list documentation.

· Assist the Project Manager with as-built information, testing records, equipment documentation, warranties, and project closeout requirements.

Performance Expectations

Safety Requirements

· Lead and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.

· Conduct a Job Safety Analysis and pre-task safety discussion with the crew before beginning work.

· Supervise the daily activities of employees, subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers onsite.

· Identify potential hazards and require corrective action.

· Require proper personal protective equipment for all employees and subcontractors.

· Conduct or participate in required weekly jobsite safety meetings.

· Ensure employees and subcontractors receive and follow required project-specific safety training.

· Enforce excavation, trenching, fall-protection, confined-space, lockout/tagout, hot-work, utility-location, and equipment-safety requirements as applicable.

· Serve as the designated competent person only when properly trained, qualified, and assigned.

· Stop work when an unsafe condition presents an immediate risk to employees, the public, the environment, equipment, or property.

· Immediately report incidents, injuries, near misses, spills, utility strikes, equipment damage, and property damage.

· Maintain good housekeeping and ensure the work area remains organized and safe.

Physical and General Work Expectations

· Work outdoors and indoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.

· Walk active construction sites and work around excavations, heavy equipment, cranes, traffic, fuel systems, and electrical equipment.

· Climb ladders, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.

· Access confined or restricted areas when properly trained and authorized.

· Lift and carry materials or equipment consistent with company policy and applicable safety requirements.

· Wear required personal protective equipment.

· Work nights, weekends, extended hours, or scheduled shutdown periods when required.

· Travel and stay overnight near assigned project locations as required.

Requirements

· High School diploma or GED, required.

· Minimum of 5+ years of experience in petroleum construction, fuel-system installation, UST or AST installation, or a closely related field.

· Previous experience supervising field employees and subcontractors.

· Working knowledge of fuel storage tanks, petroleum piping, pumps, controls, monitoring systems, and related electrical equipment.

· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer instructions.

· Working knowledge of construction safety requirements and applicable fuel-system, fire, building, electrical, and environmental regulations.

· Ability to plan daily work, coordinate multiple trades, identify field conflicts, and maintain the project schedule.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate electronic project documentation.

· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

· Ability to travel and remain onsite for extended project assignments.

· Experience using Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office

· Must be able to meet company’s employment requirements, which include passing a drug screen, background check, and MVR, if driving for the company. 

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with data-center or other mission-critical fuel-system projects.

· UST or AST installer certification or license where required.

· OSHA 30-Hour Construction and Excavation Competent Person training.

· First Aid and CPR, confined-space, rigging, signal-person, or other applicable safety training.

· Manufacturer training related to tanks, piping, pumps, fuel controls, automatic tank gauges, leak detection, or monitoring systems.
