The Behavioral Support Professional is responsible for assisting in daily living tasks, personal care, and support, and ensuring the personal safety and welfare of individuals with intellectual disability, mental illness, and/or challenging behavior in a residential setting.


*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and implementation of the person's individual program plan (IPP), individual service plan (ISP), and behavior intervention plan (BIP).
• Abide by HCBS guidelines and indicated in the HCBS manual.
• Uses good decision-making skills and accesses appropriate resources to develop quality services.
• Support the needs and goals of each client by taking them to medical appointments, to visit family and friends, to preferred leisure/recreational activities, and encouraging them to socialize with their peers.
• Maintain open communication with Supported Community Living Manager to inform team members on client progress with goals, medical and/or social needs.
• Collaborate and communicate with family members, caretakers, neighbors, case workers, and other involved individuals.
• Maintain records of medical and dental visits, current medications, illnesses, injuries, and special needs.
• Order prescriptions and non-prescription medications for clients, if needed.
• Check in medications from pharmacy and administer medication, First Aid, and/or CPR if necessary.
• Transport clients to and from medical appointments and outings around the community as needed.
• Maintain client funds by ensuring receipts are recorded, and filed, in a timely fashion.
• Implement approved emergency procedures in the event of a fire or natural disasters.
• Ensure other BSP colleagues complete assigned tasks.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Complies with documentation policies by submitting accurate and timely paperwork, including progress notes, billing sheets, timesheets, expense logs, and other required reports.
• Complete required training for nationally recognized certification
• On-going continuing education to keep skills current.
• Attends mandatory SCL staff meetings and in-service training assigned by CROSSROADS, INC.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience:
Preferred work experience with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors of individuals with intellectual disability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Knowledge:
Knowledge of individual program plans, client service needs, behavior plans, medication administration, emergency disaster protocol, abuse reporting, and physical management techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Requires a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.
• Must successfully pass all pre-employment background checks.
• Ability to meet physical and mental requirements necessary to perform all functions of position.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Communication and relational skills to interact in a professional manner with staff and clients.
• Strong problem-solving skills and time-management skills.
• Basic computer skills.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The BSP position will typically work in a residential or office environment with occasional work outside and in small, enclosed spaces. Using standard mental and visual attention continuously, with occasional periods of continuous alertness and concentration. Frequent sitting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Occasionally lift 25 lbs. Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, crawling, reaching, walking, driving, traveling, kneeling, and crouching.

Ability to perform physical management techniques learned from Safety-Care training.
