Job Description Summary Partners with Fixed Income Capital Markets (FICM) business leaders and key stakeholders to identify, assess, monitor, and manage risk across the business. Independently evaluates business processes, risks, and controls; provides practical risk guidance and credible challenge; and drives initiatives that strengthen the department’s risk and control environment. Works collaboratively with associates and leaders across sales, trading, operations, technology, finance, compliance, legal, audit, and enterprise risk to lead recurring risk activities, support business initiatives, resolve complex issues, and provide informed risk perspectives on changes affecting the FICM business. The ideal candidate is an experienced risk or financial services professional with strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills. Success in this role requires sound judgment, initiative, ownership, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities while influencing and collaborating effectively across functions. The candidate should be comfortable constructively challenging assumptions and translating complex risk matters into practical recommendations for business partners and management. Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Promotes and advances practical risk management and control practices that support the FICM business, its strategic objectives, and an effective risk culture. Leads and performs the identification, assessment, monitoring, escalation, and reporting of operational, compliance, market, credit, and other business risks, applying judgment to determine materiality and appropriate action. Plans and leads risk management projects and other cross-functional initiatives by defining objectives, coordinating stakeholders, managing deliverables and dependencies, resolving issues, and communicating status, risks, and decisions. Researches and interprets internal policies and standards, business requirements, regulatory guidance, and industry practices; assesses applicability and business impact and provides practical guidance to stakeholders. Leads business process and risk walkthroughs to evaluate workflows, key risks, controls, dependencies, and change impacts; identifies gaps and recommends enhancements to strengthen the control environment. Owns and maintains risk and control assessments, control inventories, policies, procedures, issue logs, risk acceptance documentation, and related governance materials, ensuring information is accurate, current, and appropriately supported. Designs and executes control testing and monitoring activities using established methodologies; evaluates control design and operating effectiveness, analyzes evidence, documents conclusions, and escalates meaningful exceptions or weaknesses. Collects, validates, reconciles, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative information from multiple sources to identify trends, anomalies, emerging risks, concentrations, and potential control weaknesses; develops clear conclusions and actionable insights. Leads issue management activities, including documenting observations, performing or facilitating root cause analysis, evaluating remediation plans, monitoring corrective actions, challenging overdue or insufficient responses, and supporting timely closure. Prepares and presents professional reports, dashboards, presentations, committee materials, and management updates that clearly communicate risk themes, trends, issues, decisions, and recommended actions. Co‑ordinates and supports internal and external audits and other independent reviews, including managing information requests, researching inquiries, evaluating findings, coordinating responses, and monitoring related commitments. Builds trusted relationships with business leaders and partners; serves as a risk resource by providing guidance, facilitating problem solving, constructively challenging decisions, and helping stakeholders develop practical risk‑based solutions. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Concepts in business operations, finance, economics, accounting, business management, risk management, or a related discipline. Risk management and control principles, including risk identification and assessment, control design and effectiveness, issue management, monitoring, governance, and escalation practices. Standard office applications, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and collaboration tools. Financial services, capital markets concepts, fixed income products, risk management, and applicable industry regulation are strongly preferred. Skill in: Interpreting and applying policies, procedures, business requirements, regulatory guidance, and risk management standards to complex or evolving business situations. Researching, validating, and synthesizing information from multiple sources to develop well‑supported conclusions, identify implications, and recommend appropriate actions. Analyzing qualitative and quantitative information to identify patterns, trends, exceptions, emerging risks, and areas requiring management attention. Structuring complex or unstructured problems, identifying the most relevant facts and risks, and presenting conclusions in a clear, logical, and decision‑useful manner. Documenting and evaluating business processes, risks, controls, testing procedures, observations, issues, remediation plans, and management decisions. Assessing control design and operating effectiveness, evaluating the sufficiency of supporting evidence, identifying control gaps, and communicating defensible conclusions. Planning, prioritizing, and independently managing multiple assignments, projects, and deliverables in a deadline‑driven environment while maintaining appropriate stakeholder communication. Preparing and presenting clear, concise, and professional written communications, reports, presentations, committee materials, and management updates for varied audiences. Identifying process and control improvement opportunities and developing practical, risk‑based recommendations that balance risk mitigation with business objectives. Building productive relationships and influencing business partners across functions and levels to obtain information, resolve issues, challenge constructively, and achieve shared objectives. Ability to: Quickly develop and maintain a strong understanding of FICM business processes, products, systems, risk concepts, and regulatory requirements and apply that knowledge to risk decisions and recommendations. Exercise sound, independent judgment to identify and assess risks, evaluate mitigation techniques, distinguish material issues from routine matters, and recommend practical solutions. Demonstrate strong ownership and accountability by driving work to completion, following through on commitments, anticipating obstacles, and consistently delivering high‑quality work. Work independently with limited oversight, establish an effective approach to assignments, communicate status and risks proactively, and elevate significant issues at the appropriate time. Lead through influence and collaborate effectively across functions while remaining comfortable owning individual workstreams and making progress in ambiguous or evolving situations. Balance competing priorities, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and appropriate risk judgment. Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and tailor messages appropriately for business partners, management, and control functions. Ask insightful questions, think independently, listen actively, challenge assumptions or incomplete information constructively, and pursue issues until an appropriate conclusion is reached. Seek and incorporate feedback, share knowledge with colleagues, and continuously strengthen technical, business, risk management, and leadership capabilities. Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, initiative, professionalism, integrity, discretion, and confidence when handling complex or sensitive matters. Earn trust and establish effective working relationships across all levels of the organization through credibility, responsiveness, collaboration, sound judgment, and consistent follow‑through.
