Billing Specialist

Teche Health, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Billing Specialist Position in Franklin, Louisiana.JOB SUMMARY:Generate revenue by reviewing & posting charges to patients’ accounts; ensure all charges are accounted for; assist patients in account inquiries; monitoring accounts for accuracy.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Research all information needed to complete billing process including obtaining charge information from physiciansCodes & corrects codes information about procedures performed and diagnosesReviews and/or keys charge information into on-line entry programs and produce billingWorks with other staff to follow up on accounts until zero balancesAssists with coding and error resolutionAssists with answering the telephone, taking and relaying messagesMaintains required billing records, reports and filesUnderstands and observes organization policies regarding confidentiality and security of informationOther duties may be assignedRetrieve online remittance advicePosts all payments to patient accounts accordingly and in a timely mannerMaintains information on encounters not received by providers and communicates this information with those providersParticipates in clinic activities designed to maintain quality and safe care for patients served by the facilityEffectively communicates with the organization and with the community to provide quality servicesSupports, assists and adheres to implementation of the clinic mission and philosophyServes as a resource when needed, including assisting in co-worker training and orientationObserves clinic policies and proceduresPromotes a positive public image when representing the facilityParticipate in educational experiences designed to maintain competenceAnnually completes all required in-services and training (e.g. CPR < Infection Control, Safety, etc. as appropriate to the job)Opens and distributes incoming mailQUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:High school diploma or GEDCompletion of a medical terminology course or equivalent prior experience demonstrating basic knowledge of medical terminologyMath Ability:Basic understanding of mathematicsComputer Skills:Understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)Professional and Communication Skills:Must be able to communicate with patients and coworkers in a professional mannerFollow basic instructionsWork independently and as part of a teamBe able to work with a deadlineBe able to operate a fax machine, copier, adding machine and a multi-line telephone.Benefits Package:Medical, Vision and Dental Health InsuranceAccidental InsuranceCritical Illness InsuranceLong Term BenefitsShort Term BenefitsFree Life Insurance401K Plan BenefitsPaid VacationPaid Sick TimeSet ScheduleNo WeekendsNational Health Service Corps Site11 paid holidaysFamily-Friendly Work EnvironmentEligible for Student Loan Forgiveness through Federal and State ProgramsEligibility Requirements:All employees must meet eligibility standards in order to be considered for the position applying for.
