About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL RN license required Certifications: BLS Certification required Must-Have: Ability to adhere to drug-free policies and pass a drug screen Description: Unit has a total of 29 beds. Typical patient census ranges from 22 to 26, with a target census of 25. Patients may be in private or semi-private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 during the night. Common diagnoses include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, fall-related injuries, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolisms. Majority of cases are medical diagnoses with some patients returning from surgery or procedures. Registered Nurses are required to titrate Heparin drips. There is a 24-hour Charge RN on duty, who ideally has no patient assignment. The unit has 24-hour patient care technician coverage, with a ratio of 1:10. Patients may require oxygen support up to 6L via nasal cannula and stable BiPAP/CPAP systems. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely; the unit uses Phillips telemetry equipment. There is a unit clerk available 24 hours a day. Shifts include 12-hour rotations with report times at 7 AM and 7 PM. Registered Nurses must work every other weekend. Holidays are rotated among staff. Floating may occur to similar units; there are no ICU or chemotherapy patients. Staff may wear any color scrubs, which they must provide. Registered Nurses are expected to attempt IV starts and can utilize inpatient phlebotomy support when needed.
