If this sounds like a good fit for you, come join the Youth Safety& Permanency team as a Child Welfare Supervisor. The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare's Division of Child, Youth & Family Services is seeking a dedicated Child Welfare Supervisor for the Boise Office. This full-time position is pivotal in leading and supervising a Child Welfare prevention team, ensuring the health, safety, and independence of Idahoans. As a Child Welfare Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to staff, which is the fourth level in a six-level Child Welfare job series. Your role will emphasize supervision, consultation, and technical support to Child Welfare staff, ensuring that they receive the necessary guidance and resources to manage their cases effectively. In this position, you will provide programmatic guidance and consultation for department child welfare cases, arranging for clinical consultation and oversight for more complex cases. You will also be involved in direct child welfare case management for clients and families when necessary. The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare emphasizes staff development and performance management, requiring both individual and group supervision to align with Learning Resource Team initiatives. This role is essential in guiding new employees to understand the values and practice model methods of the program, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle the challenges of child welfare.

IMPORTANT: Incumbents will be required to participate in the Child Welfare Academy in order to learn Idaho child welfare practices and standards and complete Child Welfare Academy assignments. During the probationary period, incumbents carry a reduced child welfare caseload under the guidance of child welfare supervisors or designated experienced child welfare social workers to gain knowledge and expertise necessary to provide professional child welfare services to children and families who are subjects of child abuse or neglect. *Some travel will be required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Interview, hire, and support new staff through the Academy competency-based learning period. Assess staff training needs and provide training.
• Plan and organize work and assign cases to Family Services Workers according to worker competence and case needs.
• Determine case priorities and ensure quality of work performed.
• Direct practice and provide consultation to ensure standards are met within the context of family-centered practice to achieve safety, permanency and well-being for children in the welfare system.
• Arrange for clinical consultation and oversight when appropriate for department child welfare cases and approve funding for services.
• Monitor, review, and approve written work, including court documents.
• Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback on an on-going basis.
• Sample and evaluate cases for adherence to practice standards and compliance with state and federal laws regarding children's welfare.
• Conduct staff meetings and provide technical oversight regarding program policies, goals and procedures.
• May perform direct case management for clients and families, including intake, assessment, case management, licensing and contract monitoring, social services, support, and change-oriented activities to preserve the family unit and promote client self-determination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. • This position requires licensure as a Social Worker in Idaho in accordance with Idaho Code 54-3201 et.seq . Licensure information can be found through the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses at
• Considerable knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by completion of a class or seminar (more than one day) specifically covering supervisory practices OR lead work experience that required work assignment, direction, and monitoring (such experience on a fill-in-basis is non-qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more OR successful completion of a college-level personnel related course. (Supervisory practices and/or experience in a related human services field may substitute for two years of the required experience.)
• Some knowledge of community organization/development principles and processes . Typically gained by completion of a community organization/development course or workshops equivalent to three semester hours of college credits or 40 classroom hours OR direct services role in case management or psychosocial or rehabilitative therapy or counseling and applying these principles in a community development role.
• This position requires four years' experience as a Social Worker in assessment or case management of child protection cases. A Master of Social Work Degree may substitute for one year of the required experience. Assessment or case management experience in another public child welfare system or child welfare agency may substitute on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years. Supervisory experience in a related human services field may substitute for two years of the required experience.
• A valid driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and meet eligibility requirements to drive a state vehicle.
