Job Summary:

The Full-time Sonography Faculty member creates and maintains a student-centered teaching and learning environment that prepares graduates for entry-level practice in diagnostic medical sonography. This position leverages PPSC’s state-of-the-art lab facilities and high-end equipment to provide didactic, lab, and clinical instruction in accordance with CAAHEP/JRCDMS and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards.

This is a Perkins Grant funded assignment.

Multi-year grants are funded based on the fiscal years for the full grant period. However, there is no guarantee that funding is available year after year from the awarding agencies. Employment with the college after each grant-funded period is not assured.

Grant-funded positions cannot guarantee a payout of leave benefits. Grant-funded employees are encouraged to work with their supervisor to schedule and utilize annual leave benefits during each grant fiscal year.

Grant funded positions may be eligible for annual increases contingent upon awarded yearly grant budgets and a satisfactory performance evaluation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Inclusive Instruction & Real-World Training
• Teach assigned didactic, lab, and/or clinical courses in Abdominal, OB/GYN, and Vascular sonography.
• Utilize high-end diagnostic ultrasound equipment within the CHES lab to simulate real-world clinical situations and pathologies.
• Employ diverse, evidence-based teaching methods to support learning for students with varied educational and experiential backgrounds.
• Provide students with clear syllabi, learning outcomes, and transparent grading criteria.

Curriculum, Assessment & CCNS Alignment
• Develop and revise course materials to ensure strict alignment with the CCCS Common Course Numbering System (CCNS).
• Lead the systematic Assessment of Student Learning to meet HLC and programmatic accreditation requirements.
• Recommend instructional equipment and simulation resources to maintain the program’s state-of-the-art status.

Clinical Coordination & Leadership
• As program needs progress, assume responsibilities of the Clinical Coordinator, overseeing student placements and clinical site relations.
• Collaborate with clinical partners to ensure student competency achievement and readiness for the workforce.

Student Success & Service
• Provide proactive academic advising and mentorship, serving as a "Success Coach" for a diverse student body.
• Participate in program, department, and college-wide committees and recruitment activities.
• Maintain "Qualified Faculty" status through ongoing professional development and clinical engagement.

• Planning and delivery of appropriate classroom and online curriculum that are current, that meet discipline standards and trends, and that are in compliance with the State of Colorado (e.g. Guaranteed Transfer).
• Development and implementation of actionable department assessment and reporting.
• Assistance with professional development for part-time instructors.

• Assistance with division and college needs.
• Assistance with departmental needs, like (but not limited to) course scheduling, other administrative duties, book/OER adoptions, and professional development.
• Student advising that supports student and departmental objectives.

MATERIALS & PREPARATION
• Maintains current and relevant syllabi, following State guidelines when indicated.
• Reviews and updates course materials.
• Uses evaluation methods related to and appropriate for course content.
• Informs students, in writing, of the objectives of the course content.
• Uses supplemental resources in addition to textbooks or other course materials.
• Participate in all aspects of department and/or college-level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career/technical courses and programs as required.


INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
• Keeps scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours, as determined by the division.
• Meets classes as scheduled for the prescribed time.
• Submits required reports and documents.
• Attends required division and department meetings.


PROFESSIONALISM
• Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline-specific and pedagogical issues.
• Collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner.
• Uses communication techniques that foster collegiality when problem-solving.

PROMOTING DIVISION/ COLLEGE QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION
• Assists, as requested, with the development of class schedules and the college catalog.
• Assists with curriculum review, revision, development, and implementation within the department.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.
• Assists in textbook selection and adoption.
• Assists with student advising and student registration.
• Maintains a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
• Participates in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
• Assists with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA. PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS
• Serves on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
• Assists with division activities as requested by the dean.
• Assists with student recruitment as appropriate.
• Assists with developing and implementing alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., internet or ITV, as appropriate.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES
• Performs other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President for Instructional Services and/or the College President.
• Ability to navigate differences effectively and respectfully in the workplace.
• Adhere to college policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completed Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Sciences, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Current ARDMS (RDMS) credentials in Abdomen (AB) and OB/GYN.
• Current RVT credential in Vascular (VT).
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain the Colorado State CTE Teaching Credential. 
• Four years of full-time clinical practice as a diagnostic medical sonographer.

• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and student success.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed Master’s degree in Education, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
• Current RDCS credential in Adult Cardiac.
• Prior college-level teaching experience (didactic or lab).
• Experience with CAAHEP/JRCDMS accreditation self-studies.

Work Life Balance 

Faculty are required to work 166 duty days. Pikes Peak State College offers a generous amount of 74 hours of faculty sick leave and 16 hours of personal leave. There are paid holidays and alternate paid holidays which allow the college to be closed Christmas Day through New Year's Day. Eligibility is defined by your employment FTE status.

In addition to medical coverage, the college offers dental and vision insurance plans to choose from. Eligibility is defined by your employment FTE status. 

Retirement  

Pikes Peak State College participates in Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) contribution rates. State employees are required to a mandatory contribution of a percentage of their salary to the plan, and the college contributes a percentage as well. While you are enrolled in PERA, you do not pay Social Security. In addition, there are supplemental retirement plans available through three other vendors.  

Life Insurance 

Pikes Peak State College offers life insurance paid for by the college to eligible employees. Supplemental life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance policies are available for those interested in additional coverage. Eligibility is defined by your employment FTE status. 

Additional Leave Programs 

Pikes Peak State College offers additional leave programs such as bereavement leave, jury leave, community and parental academic leave, Family and Medical Leave (FML), and Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI).
