Adjunct: Pharmaceutical Discovery Instructor

Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Job Description: Position Overview: The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI): SCI 5300 Pharmaceutical Discovery (Fall semester, 1.5 credits) Course Description: The discovery and development of a new drug can take more than a decade, with costs exceeding one billion dollars. Effective early-stage drug discovery increases the likelihood of successfully demonstrating efficacy and safety later on during clinical trials. This course covers the preclinical phase of the small molecule drug discovery process from selection and validation of the therapeutic target to identification, characterization, and validation of lead drug candidates, up to IND filing. The course will discuss both traditional high throughput and more advanced high content screening methods, use of genetically engineered 3D cell culture model systems, as well as the use of computational tools and artificial intelligence in drug target characterization, rational drug design, and prediction of pharmacokinetics and toxicology. The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty. Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services. Education and Experience: Minimum of a Master's degree in a related field, a doctoral degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus. Hours, Classification, and Status: This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits. Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute. The base salary range for this position is $2,500 - $15,000 per semester, depending on credits per course.
