ELD (English Language Development) Instructional Assistant – Intermediate School Location: North Marion Intermediate School, Aurora, Oregon Job ID: 5758692 Starting Date: Aug 25, 2026 Salary: $17.86 to $22.79 per hour Position Type: Full Time Application Deadline: Posted until filled Position Summary: In collaboration and under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher, create a vibrant learning community for assigned identified students. Assist the teacher in developing instructional programs by working with students individually or in small/large groups, preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom discipline, and conducting planned activities using teacher‑designated methods and materials. Support the implementation of instructional programs aligned to the District’s Core Values and Mission, creating a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Establish relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a sense of belonging and community. Some positions require aptitude and skill in working with the particular disabilities or learning needs of students. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent by OAR 581-37-030 Two years of post‑secondary study or an Associate’s degree or higher A passing score on a state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (see Valid Oregon driver’s license Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance Bilingual Spanish/English required Must complete all tasks described in the full job description (available upon request) Willingness and ability to assume responsibility of one‑on‑one working relationships with students and staff Must be able to review and follow lesson plans prepared by program coordinator/ELD Teacher Flexible, willing to work with a variety of grades to address student needs at times Essential Functions: Provide push‑in support to emergent bilingual/multilingual students in content classrooms Provide small group or one‑on‑one support to emergent bilingual/multilingual students outside content classrooms Administer state and local assessments (training provided) Maintain records (student files, spreadsheets, assessments, data, confidential information) Attend staff meetings, professional development, and in‑service presentations (requested) Communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents Perform other duties as assigned Assist in monitoring classroom management per district discipline procedures Communicate effectively and appropriately in English and Spanish (oral and written) Knowledge of English, mathematics, and basic understanding of subjects in which assistance is provided Operate standard office equipment: computer, copier, word processor; audio‑visual equipment Assist teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences for students in the EL Program; provide feedback on performance and testing activities Assist teachers in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on student needs, interests, and abilities Supervise students inside and outside classroom with a safe environment Assist with large group activities such as reading aloud, language practice, storytelling Alert teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student Provide information and help to substitute teachers Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments Collaborate with students, parents, colleagues, and community members in a harmonious and respectful manner Perform clerical functions in student record keeping, monitor assignments, maintain accurate files, etc. Assist supervision during emergency drills, assemblies, and play periods Follow all safety rules and take precautions for safe working environment Comply with professional development activities required by the District Demonstrate computer literacy and operate software programs related to job responsibilities Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and District policy Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality Demonstrate support for District Core Values, Mission, and Strategic Plan Hold expectations for high performance of self and students Follow all laws, District policies, rules, regulations, memos, announcements, and reasonable requests by authority Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and meet deadlines Other Requirements/Responsibilities: Maintain First Aid and/or CPR Card if required Occasionally perform other duties as required by supervisor Participate in mandatory district safety trainings annually or as required Evaluation: Following the probationary period, performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
