Job Title: Maintenance Manager
Location: Garden Grove, CA
Duration: Direct Hire
1st Shift: 7:00 AM To 5:00 PM
Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager directs and oversees maintenance and facilities activities for an aerospace fastener manufacturing operation. This position leads maintenance personnel and coordinates contractors engaged in the installation, modification, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant assets, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, utilities, and production equipment used to manufacture flight-critical and highly engineered fasteners. The role supports cold heading and forming, thread rolling, CNC machining, drilling, grinding, heat-treatment support systems, cleaning, coating and plating support, inspection, packaging, and related secondary operations. The Maintenance Manager is accountable for equipment reliability, safe work execution, regulatory and customer compliance, maintenance planning, budget control, and continuous improvement that supports product quality, lot traceability, production uptime, and on-time delivery.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations & Equipment Reliability
- Direct daily scheduled and unscheduled mechanical, electrical, facilities, and utility maintenance activities across aerospace fastener manufacturing and support areas.
- Plan, prioritize, schedule, and assign preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance work based on aerospace production schedules, customer commitments, equipment criticality, and product-flow constraints.
- Lead the response to breakdowns involving cold headers, thread rollers, CNC machines, furnaces and heat-treatment support equipment, grinders, drills, parts washers, compressors, material-handling equipment, inspection systems, and other production-critical assets; coordinate troubleshooting, repair resources, parts, contractors, and communication to Operations leadership.
- Assess recurring equipment and infrastructure problems and develop practical short-term containment and long-term corrective solutions.
- Coordinate equipment installations, relocations, modifications, commissioning, process validation support, and controlled return-to-service activities to protect aerospace product quality and production continuity.
- Inspect plant equipment and systems to verify operational readiness and conformance with safety, maintenance, aerospace quality-system, process-control, and customer requirements.
- Partner with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Tooling, Metallurgy, Laboratory, and EHS to minimize downtime, protect validated processes, prevent nonconforming product, and resolve equipment-related risks.
- Support production equipment used for aerospace bolts, screws, nuts, pins, collars, and other precision or flight-critical fastening components, as applicable to the site.
Preventive Maintenance, CMMS & Performance Metrics
- Develop, implement, and continually improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs for fastener manufacturing equipment, special-process support systems, inspection assets, facilities, and utilities.
- Own and administer the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), including asset records, work orders, PM schedules, labor, parts, and maintenance history.
- Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented, closed, and reviewed for effectiveness, including verification that repairs and adjustments do not compromise approved machine settings, process controls, calibration status, product acceptance, or lot traceability.
- Coordinate with Quality and Engineering when maintenance work may affect a validated process, special-process parameter, inspection result, or previously produced material; support documented product-impact assessments and required release approvals.
- Maintain clear equipment status identification and return-to-production controls so repaired equipment is not released until safety, function, and applicable quality checks are complete.
- Monitor and report maintenance KPIs such as PM completion, planned versus unplanned work, equipment downtime, mean time to repair, mean time between failures, maintenance backlog, and maintenance cost.
- Use maintenance, production, scrap, quality, and downtime data to identify trends, determine root causes, prioritize reliability improvements, and verify sustained results across fastener manufacturing processes.
- Maintain equipment files, drawings, manuals, schematics, critical settings, inspection records, maintenance procedures, and controlled documentation needed to support aerospace customer, quality-system, and regulatory audits.
Facilities, Utilities & Contractor Management
- Oversee plant electrical and mechanical infrastructure, HVAC, compressed air, process gas, cooling and quench-support systems, ventilation and exhaust, fire and life-safety systems, lighting, roofs, grounds, and general building maintenance required for fastener manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate vendor and contractor work, including scope development, quotations, scheduling, site access, safety requirements, quality review, and invoice validation.
- Maintain a critical spare-parts strategy and inventory controls for legacy and specialized fastener equipment, controls, motors, pumps, bearings, sensors, tooling-support systems, and utility components to support equipment availability while managing cost and obsolescence risk.
- Coordinate required facilities inspections, certifications, repairs, and corrective actions with EHS and other stakeholders.
- Ensure contractor activities are completed safely, with minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture and reinforce compliance with company safety rules, PPE, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, hot work, confined-space, fall-protection, chemical and process-safety controls, and contractor-safety requirements within an aerospace fastener manufacturing environment.
- Partner with EHS to investigate maintenance-related incidents and near misses, complete corrective actions, and improve safe-work practices.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including Cal/OSHA requirements, company policies, and environmental procedures.
- Support internal, aerospace customer, quality-system, special-process, and regulatory audits by maintaining accurate, traceable, and audit-ready maintenance and facilities records.
- Coordinate maintenance controls for equipment subject to calibration, temperature uniformity, process monitoring, or other quality-system requirements, in partnership with Quality and process owners.
- Ensure lubricants, coolants, chemicals, replacement parts, and maintenance methods are controlled to prevent contamination, material mix-up, product damage, or unauthorized process changes.
- Promote housekeeping, 5S/6S, foreign object debris (FOD) prevention, tool and hardware accountability, contamination control, and disciplined maintenance practices throughout production and maintenance areas.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, train, and develop maintenance supervisors, leads, technicians, mechanics, electricians, and other assigned personnel.
- Establish clear performance expectations, daily priorities, training plans, qualification requirements, and accountability for safe, timely, and high-quality work.
- Participate in workforce planning, recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding, scheduling, and succession planning for the maintenance function.
- Provide timely feedback, recognition, coaching, and corrective action consistent with company policy and applicable law.
- Promote cross-training and technical skill development to strengthen multishift maintenance coverage and response capability.
Budget, Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and manage the annual maintenance operating budget, forecast expenses, control overtime and contractor costs, and explain significant variances.
- Prepare scopes, cost estimates, business justifications, and capital appropriation requests for equipment and facilities projects.
- Manage maintenance and facilities projects for safety, scope, schedule, cost, quality, validation support, and operational readiness while minimizing risk to aerospace production and customer delivery.
- Identify and implement improvements that increase equipment uptime, extend asset life, reduce operating cost, improve labor utilization, and prevent repeat failures.
- Support Lean, TPM, 5S/6S, root-cause analysis, and other continuous-improvement initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position manages assigned maintenance personnel and may oversee supervisory, lead, technical, and contractor resources. Responsibilities include planning and assigning work, interviewing and hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluating performance, addressing employee concerns, and administering corrective action in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Facilities Management, Business, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting multishift manufacturing operations and leading skilled mechanical and electrical maintenance teams.
- Experience in aerospace fastener manufacturing strongly preferred, including exposure to cold heading or forming, thread rolling, CNC and secondary machining, heat-treatment support, cleaning or coating processes, and precision inspection equipment.
- Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, CMMS administration, vendors, contractors, budgets, and capital projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, PLC and machine-control, process-heating, ventilation, compressed-air, and utility systems used in aerospace fastener manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical procedures.
- Advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, planning, prioritization, project-management, and decision-making skills, with the ability to distinguish equipment-related defects from tooling, material, method, and process-control issues.
- Working knowledge of maintenance reliability concepts and KPIs, including PM compliance, downtime, MTTR, MTBF, backlog, and maintenance cost.
- Proficiency with CMMS applications and Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, engineers, vendors, contractors, and senior leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond effectively during equipment failures, and support off-shift or weekend needs when required.
- Strong leadership, accountability, collaboration, organizational, and continuous-improvement capabilities
