Company Description Markell Estate Planning & Elder Law LC is a leading elder law firm based in O'Fallon, Missouri, serving primarily the greater St. Charles and St. Louis Counties. The firm focuses on individualized estate planning, elder law, and probate administration, providing each client with attentive, compassionate, and thorough representation. The team collaborates closely with clients, their families, financial advisors, and accountants to help them prepare for major life and long-term care decisions. Most services are offered on a one-time, flat-fee basis, giving clients transparency and predictability without hourly billing or hidden charges. Role Description The Associate Attorney will be a full-time, on-site team member based in O'Fallon, MO. This role includes meeting with clients to assess estate planning and elder law needs, drafting and reviewing estate planning documents (such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments), and advising on Medicaid, long-term care, and related elder law issues. The attorney will handle probate and trust administration matters, including court filings, communication with personal representatives and beneficiaries, and coordination with outside professionals. Day-to-day work will also involve legal research, preparing legal opinions and client communications, negotiating and resolving issues with opposing parties and agencies as needed, and maintaining clear, organized case files. The Associate Attorney will collaborate with other team members to support a high level of client service and may participate in client education events or community outreach related to estate planning and elder law. Qualifications Strong foundational knowledge of Law, with specific interest or experience in estate planning, elder law, and probate practice. Ability to provide high-quality Legal Advice, including clear explanation of complex legal concepts to clients and allied professionals. Experience or coursework in Labor and Employment Law is beneficial, particularly for issues intersecting with caregiving, benefits, or workplace-related planning. Proficiency in Research to analyze statutes, regulations, case law, and administrative guidance relevant to estate planning and elder law matters. Effective Negotiation skills for resolving disputes, addressing beneficiary concerns, and working with government agencies or opposing counsel. Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active license (or eligibility for prompt admission) to practice law in Missouri. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including careful drafting and attention to detail in legal documents. Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and the ability to work with older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their families.
