Aerospace Precision Quality Inspector

B&A Precision

Job Description

Job Description

Aerospace Precision Quality Inspector

Step into a hands-on role where every thousandth of an inch matters. Reporting to the QA Manager, you’ll be the go-to expert for dimensional and visual verification of aerospace-grade components across receiving, in-process, and final inspection.

A day in your life

Morning begins at the surface plate: you verify calibration status, organize micrometers and calipers, and set up the optical comparator. A shipment arrives—receiving inspection kicks off with thread and plug gages, followed by documenting results in both computerized and manual logs. Midday, you run a First Article Inspection (FAI) per QMS and specific customer requirements, record results, and upload data to meet QMS data-gathering needs. In the afternoon, a component flags out-of-tolerance—you partner with Project Engineers to disposition the discrepant material. Before sign-off, you perform a daily backup of quality data and prep for upcoming internal, customer, or third-party audits.

What you’ll handle
  • Mechanical and visual inspections at receiving, in-process, and final stages
  • Use of metrology tools: micrometers, calipers, height gages, surface plates, optical comparators, air gaging, thread gages, plug gages, and CMMs
  • Execution of First Article Inspections (FAIs) per QMS and customer requirements
  • Creation and maintenance of inspection records and documentation (computer and manual)
  • Data entry and management to support QMS data-gathering requirements
  • Support for calibration and maintenance of measuring devices per QP 7.6 and ISO 10012
  • Assistance with internal, customer, and third-party audits
  • Daily backups of quality data
  • Collaboration with Project Engineers in dispositioning discrepant material
  • Promotion of company Quality Policies and Objectives
What you’ll bring
  • 3–5 years of quality inspection experience in aerospace or a similarly regulated precision-manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and manufacturing travelers
  • Fluency with analog and digital inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges)
  • Foundational knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Accuracy in documenting results and maintaining traceable quality records
  • Basic computer proficiency and a meticulous eye for detail
Core proficiencies
  • GD&T
  • Aerospace Manufacturing
  • Precision Measurement & Inspection
  • Blueprint Reading
  • ISO 10012
  • CMM
