Registered Nurse - PACU

The job summary includes responsibilities and accountability for a group of patients during a designated shift. Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process and is consistent with the medical plan of care. Collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team is essential to coordinate the delivery of patient care. This position involves caring for patients of any age, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Incorporating teaching and discharge planning needs into the overall plan of care is required. Delegation of certain aspects of patient care delivery is based on current clinical competence and legal scope of practice. This position is represented by a nursing organization. Education and work experience include a preferred Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and acute care facility experience. Key certifications required include BLS certification from an approved vendor and ACLS certification by the time of hire. Demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia during orientation is expected, along with completion of specific training for Critical Care Units. Utilizing the nursing process to assess patients, design, implement, and evaluate a plan of care is crucial. Consideration of age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients is part of the nurse's responsibility. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages is applied to the delivery of patient care. Patient and family education is provided throughout all phases of care delivery to promote compliance and minimize apprehension. The nurse must respond to emergency situations or disasters, remaining calm while informing the appropriate individuals. Oversight of patient care delivery and correction of errors is vital to ensure patient safety and well-being. Reporting observations and patient reactions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner is necessary. The nurse demonstrates accountability for problem solving and clinical decision-making on the assigned shift. Continuity of care is ensured by promptly processing physician orders and all aspects of the treatment plan. Sound judgment and priority-setting abilities in providing patient care are essential. Acting as a patient advocate to ensure rights are preserved is part of the role. Knowledge of job descriptions allows for appropriate delegation to nursing assistants and student nurses. Responsibility for personal actions and decisions is required. Practicing according to the state's Nurse Practice Act is essential. Effective communication with patients, families, staff, and coworkers is necessary. Documentation of assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided to all assigned patients is required. The nurse must perform technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures. Attention to detail and patient comfort is a priority when preparing and administering medications and IVs. Emergency procedures, such as CPR, must be performed when necessary. Demonstrating safe use of equipment, including various patient care devices, is expected. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
