Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Labor and Delivery License: Pending License accepted Certifications: BLS, FHM, NRPS Must-Have: Previous experience in Labor and Delivery; Agency staff with LDRP experience preferred Description: The Registered Nurse will work in a Labor and Delivery unit. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1 but could be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on patient acuity. The average daily census is between 7 to 10 patients. The unit includes L&D and postpartum in the same physical space. Candidates should have experience in antepartum and intrapartum care. Assisting with labor, delivery, and recovery of patients will be required. Familiarity with external fetal monitoring and triage of obstetrical patients is essential. The nurse will be responsible for assessments, including sterile vaginal exams and reflex checks. They will also assist with high-risk deliveries and monitor fetal heart rate patterns. Administration of medications including Pitocin and magnesium sulfate is necessary. The role includes patient education and support, particularly regarding breastfeeding. The nurse will provide postpartum care and conduct assessments on postpartum patients. The ability to work weekends is required, with a minimum of 4-5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule. On-call shifts will also be part of the responsibilities. Candidates should be willing to float to the postpartum unit if needed. Knowledge in handling complex obstetric situations and awareness of maternal-fetal health conditions is important. Compliance with safety protocols and effective communication with the care team will be expected. The contract will not require mid-contract cancellations for other opportunities. The goal is to provide high-quality care to all patients in the unit. Additional responsibilities may include using electronic medical records for documentation.
