Maintenance Supervisor

Location W2002 COUNTY ROAD Q,Elkhart Lake, WI, 53020,United States Relocation Expense Covered No Employee Type Exempt - FT Manage Others Yes Description Serve as the working leader of the maintenance department and lead by example on the plant floor. Spend approximately 70% of the workday performing hands-on maintenance work and approximately 30% supervising, planning, scheduling, purchasing, documenting, and coordinating maintenance activities. Prioritize breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and project work to support production schedules and minimize equipment downtime. Lead, coach, train, and develop maintenance employees through daily direction and hands-on support. Develop and maintain routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance schedules for production equipment and facility systems. Work closely with Production and Engineering to troubleshoot chronic equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with the Director of Engineering on equipment installations, machine modifications, automation projects, facility improvements, and capital projects. Evaluate and purchase materials and replacement parts required to meet maintenance needs and maintain an appropriate inventory of critical spare parts. Coordinate outside contractors and vendors when specialized service or additional resources are required. Identify and implement safety, reliability, quality, and productivity improvements throughout the facility. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repair history, and other required documentation. Other duties as assigned. Hands-on maintenance responsibilities include: Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing machinery and mechanical equipment, including motors, pumps, conveyors, production machines, and related systems. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures and complete repairs in a safe and timely manner. Dismantle machines and equipment to access, inspect, repair, or replace defective components. Observe equipment in operation, review failure symptoms, and use appropriate diagnostic tools to identify the cause of equipment problems. Repair or replace worn or defective pumps, piping, hoses, valves, cylinders, bearings, drives, sensors, controls, and other machine components. Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints, schematics, equipment manuals, and drawings. Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on industrial equipment and facility systems within the employee’s training and qualifications. Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, grinding, and general metalworking required to repair or improve equipment. Set up and operate lathes, drill presses, grinders, saws, and other shop equipment to make or repair parts as needed. Support installation, commissioning, startup, relocation, and modification of production equipment. Perform basic plumbing, HVAC, utility, and facility maintenance as needed. Create rough drawings, sketches, or measurements needed to fabricate structures, guards, brackets, machine components, or other improvements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area and ensure maintenance work is completed in accordance with company safety requirements. Respond to urgent equipment issues and support after-hours or emergency maintenance needs when required. Requirements EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Five or more years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Previous experience leading, training, or supervising maintenance personnel is preferred. An Associate Degree or technical training in industrial maintenance, electromechanical technology, automation, or a related field is preferred; equivalent manufacturing maintenance experience and training will be considered.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, part manuals, SDSs, and equipment documentation. Ability to communicate priorities, expectations, and technical information clearly to maintenance employees, production employees, Engineering, suppliers, and contractors. Ability to document repairs, work orders, preventive maintenance activities, and parts usage using a computer or maintenance tracking system. Ability to work effectively across departments and respond with an appropriate sense of urgency to production needs. Ability to lead by example, provide hands‑on training, and work as part of a team to complete repairs and improvement projects.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to read and interpret pneumatic, electrical and hydraulic prints and assembly schematics of various machines. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems, troubleshoot complex equipment failures, and determine appropriate corrective actions. Ability to prioritize multiple breakdowns, preventive maintenance activities, and project work based on safety and production needs. Ability to visualize the inner workings of a machine and understand how mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems interact. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong hands-on industrial maintenance background in a manufacturing environment. Ability to troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment including CNC machines, saws, grinders, heat treat equipment, molding equipment, melting furnaces, conveyors, pumps, motors, and related production systems. Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical power transmission, and machine safety systems. PLC and industrial controls troubleshooting experience is preferred. Ability to use welding and fabrication equipment, power tools, diagnostic equipment, multimeters, measuring tools, and standard maintenance hand tools. Ability to perform basic plumbing, heating/ventilation, water system, and facility repairs as needed. Ability to use a computer for work orders, documentation, purchasing, email, and basic administrative responsibilities. Summary The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands‑on working supervisor responsible for maintaining Bremer Manufacturing production equipment, facilities, and infrastructure while leading the maintenance team. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and is expected to spend approximately 70% of the workday performing hands‑on maintenance and 30% on supervision, planning, scheduling, purchasing, documentation, and other administrative responsibilities.
