These Transportation Technician positions with the Department of Transportation offer an excellent start to a hands-on career in roadway construction and inspection. This role focuses on assisting with inspections, documentation, and field reviews to ensure transportation construction projects meet all required standards. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties:

• Construction Inspection: Make routine inspections of construction phases and assist with checking grades and elevations
• Material Monitoring: Assist in reviewing concrete, asphalt, drainage items, and other project materials
• Field Testing: Help provide visual compaction tests of soil and aggregate layers
• Project Documentation: Support creation of diary entries, estimates, calculations, and work orders
• Technical Reporting: Compile photographs, review sketches, and prepare inspection summaries
• Data Entry: Use software systems to complete project documentation and track quantities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

• This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.

• Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Indiana County. If no eligible candidates who live within Indiana County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
