Parasitology Technician (Overnight Shift - TEMP)

Work Shift: 12am - 8:30am Monday - Friday with alternating Saturday. The Target Pay for this position is $20.67 an hour. PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meetall minimum departmentrequirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing rates. Exercises judgmentin evaluating and reporting results. Performs equipment maintenanceactivities. Awareness of quality control andcalibration. Assists lead or supervisor with rechecks asdirected. Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.? Maintains clean and organized work area.? Restocks suppliesas needed. May be cross trained to perform other duties, such asperforming less complextests, including duties performed by Para Aide. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience. ? ? EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required, Science degree or vet technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Laboratory skills, with experience settingup, running, andreading lab testsand operating labinstruments preferred. Knowledge ofmedical and laboratoryterminology, Parasitologyprocedures, equipment,and familiarity with amicroscope preferred General science background Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task ina fast-paced environment Ability to work independently and as part of a team The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able toexchange accurate informationinthese situations Positive, can-do attitude General computerskills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours. Constantly operates acomputer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently. Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch Maybe required tolift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs. Heavy microscopic work The abilityto observe detailsat close range. Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in teammeetings, accurate entryof data into company systems and understanding of written directions. Extended hours may be needed Laboratory environments withpotential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE. Work under close tomoderate supervision. Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
