Join Orion and Help Build the Nation's Marine Infrastructure Orion is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Houston, Texas team and support the successful pursuit and delivery of complex marine construction and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the Gulf Coast and across the United States. This position plays a critical role in Orion's preconstruction efforts and is responsible for developing detailed project estimates, coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing, evaluating project risks, and supporting the successful preparation of competitive bids and proposals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Marine Construction and/or Heavy Civil Construction estimating and have demonstrated experience utilizing HCSS HeavyBid to develop accurate and competitive project estimates. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Project Management, Business Development, and Executive Leadership teams throughout the bidding process. This role requires strong analytical abilities, construction knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Primary Responsibilities Prepare detailed cost estimates for marine construction and heavy civil infrastructure projects Perform quantity takeoffs from plans, specifications, and contract documents Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production cost estimates Utilize HCSS HeavyBid to develop, maintain, and finalize project estimates Review bid documents, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract requirements Analyze project risks and identify potential cost impacts Assist in establishing construction sequencing, work plans, and execution strategies Support project scheduling efforts and constructability reviews Participate in estimate reviews and bid strategy meetings with senior leadership Solicit pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and equipment vendors Evaluate and compare quotations for completeness and compliance Maintain and update subcontractor and supplier databases Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely receipt of quotations Develop relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors within the marine and heavy civil markets Site Evaluations & Bid Development Participate in project site investigations and pre-bid meetings Review site conditions and logistical challenges impacting project execution Assist with bid package preparation and final proposal submissions Organize estimates, takeoffs, pricing documentation, and supporting bid materials Support post-bid reviews and project turnover activities Identify project-specific risks associated with scope, schedule, logistics, labor, equipment, and environmental factors Evaluate project opportunities and challenges during the bidding process Assist project teams during project startup and handoff following award Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and cost databases Preferred Project Experience Candidates with experience supporting any of the following project types are strongly encouraged to apply: Marine Construction Bridge Construction Waterfront Infrastructure Ports and Harbors Bulkheads and Seawalls Wharves and Piers Docks and Marine Terminals Pile Driving Operations Dredging Support Infrastructure USACE Projects DOT Infrastructure Projects Design-Build Construction Projects Qualifications Required Minimum 5 years of construction estimating experience Marine Construction and/or Heavy Civil Construction estimating experience Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid Experience preparing quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates Strong understanding of construction means and methods Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously Ability to travel periodically for site visits and project evaluations Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline Experience with self-perform contractors Familiarity with Primavera P6, HCSS, Bluebeam, Agtek, or related estimating software Experience with marine foundation systems, pile driving, structural concrete, dredging support, or waterfront construction Experience with federal, port authority, or USACE projects Current passport or ability to obtain one Safety Commitment Safety is Orion's highest priority.
