Third Grade Teacher
Northwest R1 School District
Teacher Position
Teachers are directly responsible to the building principal(s) for classroom instruction and supervision of students. The teachers' main responsibility is to lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, social and career development.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Teachers shall make it their duty and responsibility to be in their assigned places at least fifteen minutes before the opening of class sessions in the morning and a reasonable time before the opening of class sessions in the afternoon, unless they are serving at stations of duty elsewhere at the time. Teachers will be expected to remain at least fifteen minutes after the close of the school day.
- Teachers shall attend promptly all meetings called by the principal or superintendent.
- Teachers shall devote themselves during school hours to the duties of their respective assignments and shall give careful attention to instruction, discipline, manner, and habits of their pupils.
- Teachers shall be held responsible for the discipline of their respective classrooms. Teachers are not to exclude pupils from classes at random. They may invite the aid and counsel of the principal on questions of discipline and may refer cases of special misconduct to him/her or his/her delegated representative for their attention. A report of each case, signed by the teachers, shall be filed with the principal. No teacher shall exclude a pupil from class without some definite arrangement to provide for the excluded pupil to spend his/her time during the period of exclusion.
- Teachers are expected to become familiar with the Board policies, rules, and regulations and the districts course of study so that they may be able to carry these into effective operation.
- When teachers note that injury is done, either by intention or accident, to the school building, furniture, apparatus, or other school property, they shall give prompt notice of the incident to the principal. It shall be the duty of the teachers to take care the school building, furniture, apparatus, or other school property is not damaged by pupils under their supervision.
- Teachers should report any misconduct of pupils at any time or place while under the responsibility of the school authorities as are now or may be hereafter defined by law.
- It shall be the duty of each teacher to report to the principal any pupil whose progress or advancement warrants reclassifications, or who, from any cause, fails to do properly the work of his/her class at any time.
- Teachers shall see to it that their rooms are properly lighted, heated, and ventilated. When this not the case, the problem should be reported to the building principal and through him to the maintenance department.
- No teacher shall be absent from his/her classroom without due notification to the principal.
- When school is closed to permit attendance at authorized teachers' meetings, for which days teachers receive a salary, attendance is expected each day. A teacher may elect to report to school on such days for purposes of work in lieu of attendance at these meetings. Persons who do not attend the meeting or who do not report to school will accept a reduction in salary equal to one day's pay for each day of non-attendance.
- Teachers shall keep such records, make such reports to the office and to parents and guardians, and perform other duties as the principal or superintendent may require for the effective operation of the school.
- No teacher shall resign without giving thirty (30) days written notice to the superintendent, in default of which unearned salary shall be forfeited.
- Teachers may be assigned to ad hoc committees as needed.
- Teachers may be assigned to lunchroom duty with reference to subsections A & B.
- Subsection A: Principals will schedule teachers with a minimum of a 30 minute duty-free daily lunch period.
- Subsection B: A typical situation may result in variations to normal scheduling. Each building will develop a schedule for certificated staff that will insure adequate supervision in an emergency.
- Children must be supervised by a legally certificated teacher when required by state statutes or regulations. Aides and other designated personnel may assist in the supervision of children on the playgrounds, playroom, the lunchroom and hallways.
- Schools with transported students must have teachers assigned for supervisory duty from the time the first bus arrives in the morning until the time the last bus leaves in the evening.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedure of the school district.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Adapt the curriculum to provide individual, small-group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge and skills in courses being taught.
