Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist

Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist in the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs, Public Affairs Office located in Washington, DC and is responsible for assisting the Division Chief in developing, planning, organizing, and directing public affairs programs of the Bureau. Duties Serves as Deputy Chief, Public Affairs Division, and is responsible for assisting the Division Chief in developing, planning, organizing, and directing public affairs programs for the Bureau. Serves as advisor to the Division Chief, Assistant Director, and the Deputy Assistant Director for PGA on matters pertaining to the effective dissemination of information through the appropriate mass communications media. Plans work, sets and adjusts schedules, deadlines, and priorities, and develops performance standards and methods to improve work. Reviews work, and finds methods to improve production to ensure unit mission and administrative program support and customer service is provided to Bureau officials and employees, and provides support to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist, at GS-1035-15, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below. Applying knowledge of principles, methods, practices, techniques, and analytical methods of communication in order to function as a technical authority when engaging in liaison activities with the media and the general public; AND Serving as an advisor to key executives on media issues; AND Planning, designing and executing public affairs programs to inform and educate the general public and interest groups about the agency programs, activities and services; AND Implementing and coordinating public information programs to support new or revised agency operational programs. Education and Experience For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone. No substitution of education for experience is permitted. Quality Rating Factor (Preferred) Skill in knowledge of principles, methods, practices, techniques, and analytical methods of communication in order to function as a technical authority when engaging in liaison activities with the media and the general public. Skill in knowledge of planning, designing and executing public affairs programs to inform and educate the general public and specialized interest groups about programs, activities and services and implements and coordinates public information programs to support new or operational programs.
