Humanities, Library, and Social and Behavioral Sciences Full-Time, D Basis Deadline to Apply : September 3, 2026 Posting Date: July 22, 2026 Los Angeles City College (LACC) announces an opening for a full-time Dean of Academic Affairs who reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Interested individuals who possess the required qualifications and experience are invited to submit applications. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must have the following minimum qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. GENERAL REQUIREMENT Prior to employment, a medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant’s expense. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT: COVID 19 VACCINATION Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide administrative supervision of the Communication Studies, English/ESL, Law/Administration of Justice, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Psychology/Human Services, and Social Sciences departments; the Ralph Bunche Scholars honors program; and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, and seek out and oversee private, state, and federal grants to support programs and initiatives in these assigned areas.Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Provide leadership and supervision for Humanities, Library, and Social and Behavioral Sciences disciplines, including implementation of state, college, and district initiatives. Provide leadership in the development and delivery of new programs and the integration of new technology into existing programs. Provide leadership in support of student success, persistence, retention, and completion. Provide leadership in budget development and management. Oversee day-to-day operations, supervision, and organization, including assigning staff to complete projects. Facilitate long-range planning, program review, and learning outcomes assessments. Oversee the Ralph Bunche Scholars honors program, providing leadership in the organization and expansion of the program. Serve as the administrator for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, including the operations of the Library, the Tutoring Center housed in the Library, and the Library Science classes offered. Serve as a resource to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Interpret, articulate, implement, and monitor compliance with Education Code, Title 5, Board Rules, Administrative Regulations, Personnel Guides, and Collective Bargaining Unit contracts. Seek grants and other funds to expand educational programs and the Ralph Bunche Scholars honors program. Represent the Office of Academic Affairs on campus, districtwide, and regional committees. Implement existing grants, including the Equitable Placement and Completion (AB 1705) Grant and the Human Services Apprenticeship Grant. Plan, develop, organize, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the Communication Studies, English/ESL, Law/Administration of Justice, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Psychology/Human Services, and Social Sciences departments, Library, and academic programs in accordance with legal requirements, district policies, accreditation standards, and sound instructional principles and practices. Facilitate completion of overall objectives and plans for departments; initiate and participate in overall program planning; assess needs for new programs or services; and facilitate their development and implementation in accordance with established approval guidelines and budgets. Monitor outcomes assessment processes for programmatic improvement, including student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, and institutional learning outcomes, and ensuring outcomes assessment results are used to make improvements in those areas. Lead and engage in strategic planning and program review, and promote creative ideas that enable the college to be more productive, efficient, and continuously improve its services. Oversee the screening, interviewing, and selection process of faculty, classified, and unclassified staff. Hire, assign, supervise, and evaluate faculty, classified staff, and unclassified staff. Plan, coordinate, and provide training and professional development to assigned staff. Oversee staff assignments and schedules, as well as assign work location in accordance with established district policies. Coordinate and direct special projects. Initiate studies and conduct analysis to evaluate the efficiency of instructional programs to determine the need for new or modified courses, programs, and student support. Communicate and promote program objectives and offerings to potential and current students, other educational institutions, community organizations, staff, instructors, and others. Establish formal partnerships or alliances and collaborate with industry and external educational institutions, educational initiatives, and/or programs. Supervise and develop the annual budget and contractual commitments according to established procedures; seek grants and other funds to expand educational and support programs; provide control and oversight of assigned program budgets and specially funded budgets. Serve as a member of college and district committees and task forces; liaise with other campuses and district administration to ensure proper coordination of activities; promote sharing of ideas and communication of administrative required benchmarks with others, internal and external, to the district. Represent the college and district at external, local, state, national and international conferences, meetings, task forces, and activities that improve, promote, and publicize college and district instructional and or student support programs. Coordinate the investigation of and assist in the facilitation and the resolution of student, staff, and faculty conflicts and formal grievances in accordance with local, state, and district requirements. Interpret, articulate, implement, and monitor compliance with California Education Code; Title 5 Regulations; District Board Policies, Administrative Regulations, Human Resources Guides, Personnel Guides, and Personnel Commission laws and rules; applicable state and federal laws; and collective bargaining agreements in a fair and consistent manner. Serve as the administrator in charge of the college in the absence of the President or Vice President, if assigned. Serve as evening and/or weekend administrator as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Completion of at least three years of full-time formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment, preferably in the Humanities, Library, and Social and Behavioral Sciences disciplines. Knowledge of traditional and emerging career opportunities in related fields. Demonstrated experience in interpreting, articulating, and implementing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of curriculum, developing new programs, and modifying existing programs. Knowledge and experience in scheduling and enrollment management. Knowledge and experience in compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. Knowledge of the management information needs of effective instructional programs and uses of various computer resources to meet these needs. Experience and demonstrated knowledge of budget development and implementation, and accounting procedures for regular and specially funded programs including development of audit trails. Experience in obtaining and managing federal and/or state grants, preferably related to the Humanities, Library, and Social and Behavioral Sciences disciplines. Experience working with academic departments, preferably in Humanities, Library, and Social and Behavioral Sciences areas. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees, and the public in an administrative capacity, including stability, good judgment, tact, and the ability to cooperate with coworkers. Sensitivity to changing student populations, ethnic and cultural diversity within those populations, and the academic programs necessary to serve those students. SALARY AND BENEFITS The salary range is $175,206 - $206,448 , annually. The selected candidate’s salary will be allocated based on prior experience. In addition, there is a $524 , monthly differential for a doctoral degree. Benefits include 15.5 paid holidays annually, 15-24 days paid vacation annually depending on length of district service, medical/hospital, dental and vision care plans, and a $50,000 group life insurance policy.
