Sr. Compliance Specialist

Overview Abode Communities is a nonprofit real estate developer and housing provider founded in 1968 to address urban inequity through community design and planning. It owns and operates nearly 50 affordable residential communities across California, serving about 7,300 residents, with onsite resident services through its Beyond Homes program. The organization supports long-term economic mobility and housing stability across generations. Role Description The Sr. Compliance Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Pico Rivera, CA. The position ensures that affordable housing properties adhere to applicable regulatory, legal, and program requirements. Responsibilities include compliance monitoring—reviewing resident files, certifications, and leases to confirm eligibility and accuracy—and performing regular audits of property records and reporting. The role supports onsite teams by interpreting regulations, providing training on compliance standards, and serving as a resource for complex compliance questions. This role collaborates with property management, resident services, and leadership to prepare for agency reviews, respond to findings, and implement corrective actions. The Sr. Compliance Specialist helps maintain and update compliance procedures, tracks key compliance metrics, and contributes to continuous process improvement. Qualifications Strong compliance management and regulatory compliance skills, including experience interpreting and applying affordable housing program rules. Knowledge of legal compliance requirements relevant to housing programs, with the ability to align property operations with federal, state, and local regulations. Demonstrated analytical skills for reviewing files, reports, and data to identify discrepancies, trends, and risks. Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to train staff, write guidance, and collaborate effectively across teams. Experience in affordable housing, property management, or a related field; familiarity with programs such as LIHTC, HUD, or other income-restricted housing is highly beneficial. Proficiency with property management and compliance software, as well as standard office tools (spreadsheets, databases, and document management systems). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
