Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Join a fast-paced, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility as a Maintenance Technician responsible for maintaining and repairing production machinery. You will focus primarily on mechanical troubleshooting with significant electrical work, ensuring equipment reliability and uptime across the plant.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair on a wide range of production machinery, including high-speed packaging equipment, conveyors, belts, and related systems.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, focusing on approximately 75% mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
• Conduct electrical troubleshooting and repair of equipment up to 480 volts, accounting for roughly 25% of the role.
• Work with drives, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and 3-phase motors to ensure optimal performance.
• Inspect and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including checking fluid levels, identifying leaks, and addressing system performance issues.
• Check and maintain fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other routine mechanical checks to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
• Troubleshoot and repair components such as sensors, switches, electrical circuits, wiring, and control systems.
• Use the SAP system to perform and document preventive maintenance (PM) activities throughout the plant.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe maintenance and repair of all equipment.
• Support machine repair and machinery diagnosis, identifying root causes of failures and implementing effective solutions.
• Perform preventive maintenance on conveyors, belts, motors, and other mechanical components to reduce unplanned downtime.
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to complete repairs and installations.
• Utilize welding and fabrication skills, when needed, to repair or modify mechanical components and structures.
• Respond quickly and effectively to machine breakdowns anywhere in the facility, demonstrating flexibility to work on any equipment as needed.
• Assist with PLC troubleshooting and repair if capable, supporting more complex automation and control issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts when exposed to such programs, suggesting and implementing improvements to equipment reliability and safety.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, adhering to all facility safety procedures and regulations in a fast-paced environment.
• Work with a strong sense of urgency and professionalism, maintaining reliable attendance and readiness to support production needs.

Essential Skills

• Proven industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, particularly with production and high-speed packaging machinery.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulic troubleshooting, including identifying issues with fluid levels, leaks, and system performance.
• Hands-on experience with pneumatic troubleshooting, including valves, cylinders, and air systems.
• Electrical troubleshooting experience with equipment up to 480 volts.
• Experience working with drives, motors, VFDs, and 3-phase motors.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical components such as conveyors, belts, motors, and related equipment.
• Experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial machinery.
• Familiarity with electrical circuits, sensors, switches, and wiring.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience using Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe maintenance work.
• Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system, such as SAP, to complete and track preventive maintenance tasks.
• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to work on any machine that may break down in the facility.
• Strong attention to safety in a fast-paced environment with many moving parts.
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• PLC troubleshooting and repair experience is a strong plus.
• Exposure to continuous improvement programs is highly desirable.
• Experience with welding and fabrication for mechanical repair and modification.
• Eperience in working with controls and VFD-based systems.
• Familiarity with FDA-regulated or similarly regulated environments.
• Ability to train effectively on day shift before transitioning to night shift, as required.
• Union environment experience is beneficial but not required.

Work Environment

This role is fully on-site in a temperature-controlled, FDA-regulated manufacturing facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The environment is very fast-paced with many moving parts, so safety is a top priority. You will work around high-speed packaging machinery, conveyors, and other automated equipment while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards. Because the facility is FDA regulated, you will wear hair nets and beard nets as part of the required dress code. This is a contract-to-hire position with a typical 2-2-3 (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off) schedule. Shifts include 3rd shift from approximately 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. and 1st shift from approximately 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., with training conducted during the day. The primary need is for night shift coverage, but highly qualified candidates may be considered for day shift, and there is a strong emphasis on promoting from within to day shift roles when possible. You will work with industrial equipment, SAP-based maintenance systems, and standard maintenance tools in a structured, safety-focused environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
