The Work The Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing‑intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real‑time systems, and business‑management information systems) based upon documented requirements. The role may be performed individually or as part of a team. Responsibilities include reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements and documenting test results, resolving software problem reports, and utilizing software development and design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. The engineer provides input to system design regarding hardware/software trade‑offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off‑the‑shelf (COTS) or Government Off‑the‑shelf (GOTS) solutions, and requirement analysis and synthesis from system level to individual components. Basic Qualifications Current DoD Top Secret SCI with Polygraph A High School Diploma or GED plus four (4) years of general software engineering experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university Desired Skills Analyze & Define Requirements – Gather user needs and translate them into software design and performance specifications. Design & Develop Software – Create new software components or enhance existing ones with additional features. Algorithm & Performance Engineering – Design or implement algorithms that meet or exceed required system performance and functional standards. Integration & Deployment – Incorporate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments. Data Management & Query Development – Design and build complex database or data‑repository interfaces; write simple data queries for current or planned databases/repositories. Debugging & Maintenance – Identify defects in existing code, debug, and apply corrective fixes; modify software to resolve errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance. Testing & Validation – Assist in creating and executing test procedures for software components; document test results and ensure compliance with design requirements. Documentation & Process Improvement – Write or review software and system documentation; recommend enhancements to documentation standards and overall software development processes. Lead project teams at the appropriate level for the chosen development methodology and work closely with users, system engineers, and other stakeholders to analyze system flow, data usage, and work processes, and to address problem areas. Work Location & Schedule Onsite full‑time at a Lockheed Martin facility. Schedule: 9‑hour/8‑hour shift with every other Friday off (9x80). Work in accordance with Lockheed Martin’s varied work‑schedule options. Compensation & Benefits Annual base salary range (California, Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, Washington DC, and other states not listed): $86,100 – $151,800. Salary varies by location and is influenced by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions.
