Job Title: RN II - Labor and Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week - rotating shifts Experience: - Two years experience in Labor & Delivery required License: - Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor required - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from an approved vendor required - Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Must-Have: - Competence in assessing fetal and maternal well-being - Ability to manage perinatal emergencies - Skills in pain control for laboring patients - Ability to educate patients and families in the perinatal and postpartum periods Description: Located amongst oak trees, this facility has been serving the community since 1977. It is comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility that provides exceptional care in various services. Locals enjoy weekly farmers markets, farm-to-fork dining, beautiful landscapes for hiking and biking, and beach access just minutes away. The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes managing emergency situations and assisting in C-Sections. The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel according to their scope of practice. The role requires performing physical and psychosocial assessments while considering age and cultural differences. The nurse initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan in collaboration with healthcare team members. Clinical judgment is crucial in managing perinatal emergencies, including crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia. Competence in assessing amniotic fluid status, vaginal bleeding, and recognizing and managing abnormalities is essential. The nurse effectively manages pain control in the laboring patient and supports alternative pain control methods. Assistance with epidural catheter placement and monitoring patient status during procedures is required. Patient education during all stages of the perinatal and postpartum periods is also a key responsibility. Accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided is necessary, along with consistent performance of unit-specific safety and quality checks. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as necessary. The organization is committed to the safety and well-being of its staff and patients.
