Job Title: Journeyman Machine Repair – 1st Shift

Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing production machinery and equipment on 1st shift. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues, perform corrective repairs, and ensure all equipment operates safely and reliably in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Install and assist with the installation and leveling of new and relocated machinery and equipment.
• Install pneumatic and hydraulic energy sources for newly installed and relocated equipment.
• Diagnose malfunctioning machinery by observing operation, identifying issues, and collaborating with Maintenance and Engineering teams to determine root causes.
• Repair and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components, including solenoids, actuators, ballscrews, pumps, air motors, packaging equipment, air cylinders, fixtures, robots, chucks, clutches, brakes, belts, bearings, conveyors, and related devices.
• Ensure all equipment is safe to operate, with all guards, interlocks, and safety devices properly installed and functioning.
• Follow all safety, lock-out, and tag-out procedures during maintenance and repair activities.
• Read and interpret schematics and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
• Perform welding and basic fabrication tasks as needed to support machine repair and modification.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Communicate repair status, findings, and recommendations clearly to supervisors and team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance operations and production needs.

Essential Skills

• Valid Journeyman Machine Repair License or journeyman card.
• Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining industrial machinery and equipment.
• Strong proficiency with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including installation and troubleshooting.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues using mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical knowledge.
• Experience working as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in welding and basic fabrication for machine repair.
• Solid understanding of machine safety practices, including guards, interlocks, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team to solve complex equipment problems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with troubleshooting and repairing robots and automated equipment.
• Experience in repairing packaging equipment and conveyor systems.
• Knowledge of mechanical components such as bearings, belts, clutches, brakes, and chucks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnosing equipment malfunctions.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with Maintenance and Engineering teams.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures and standards.

Work Environment

This position operates on 1st shift in a manufacturing or industrial facility, working directly on production machinery and related equipment. The role involves hands-on work with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems, using tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments. You will work in and around active production areas, following strict safety and lock-out/tag-out procedures at all times. Attire typically includes appropriate work clothing and personal protective equipment suitable for a shop and plant environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Caledonia, MI.

The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $75629.00/yr.
