Consumer Protection Real Estate Examiner (Hybrid)

Introduction The State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) is now accepting applications for a Consumer Protection Real Estate Examiner position. Applicants must possess a Connecticut Real Estate License in good standing to provide aid in the regulation of Real Estate laws and regulations in Hartford, CT. Professional growth, development opportunities, and a healthy work/life balance are offered. The position is full‑time (40 hours per week) and hybrid with a combination of office and telework. Position Highlights Full Time, 40 hours per week Monday through Friday First shift Hybrid role – in office and telework Located at 450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT Salary Note Effective 6/26/2026. New hires to state service start at the minimum. Role This position works within the Real Estate Unit to assist in the regulation of Real Estate laws and regulations. NOTE: In accordance with the Code of Ethics for Public Officials and State Employees, the successful candidate will be unable to use their appraisal license or a real estate license while employed in this position with the State of Connecticut. Link to the Code of Ethics: Responsibilities Investigate real estate complaints and cases as assigned Write investigative reports Testify at hearings and in court Provide information and technical assistance to licensees and the public Speak before groups and the media as assigned Work with and attend the Real Estate Commission Examine records and operating procedures of real estate agencies, brokers, and salespersons for compliance with State laws Check licenses and examine listing contracts and sales contracts Audit escrow accounts Examine applications for licensure for compliance Review exam scores and educational courses Investigate complaints Interview complainants and brokers and other individuals to obtain information Write reports Conduct informal hearings Testify at hearings and in court Provide technical assistance to real estate people and the general public Speak before groups and the media as assigned Special assignments may include real property securities dealers, real estate syndicate securities, collection of bad checks, apartment listing services, supervision of license issuance and fee collection, examination of schools offering real estate courses, licensure of land sales, and inspection duties Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Considerable knowledge of real estate practices (appraisal, brokerage, sales, purchases, rentals, leasing, mortgaging, syndication securities) and relevant state laws and regulations; knowledge of examination and investigation methods and techniques; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; ability to use computer software. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of experience in real estate brokerage, sales, appraisals, or regulatory work in the real estate industry. Substitutions Allowed College training may be substituted for General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equal to one half (1/2) year of experience, to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. A Master’s degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of General Experience. Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for General Experience.
