RN Med/Surg

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care primarily for adult patients in a medical-surgical unit with occasional pediatric cases. The role involves coordinating patient care across medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, swing bed, and pediatric settings while utilizing the Nursing Process to make critical decisions. The RN will collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to meet patients' holistic needs, including physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental aspects, ensuring compassionate and proficient care in a rural hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to adult and occasional pediatric patients in a general medical-surgical unit.
• Coordinate and implement patient care plans using the Nursing Process.
• Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and carry out treatment plans.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including the Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Lead, and Nursing Supervisor.
• Ensure holistic patient care addressing age, physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical observations.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Support patient education and discharge planning as appropriate.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Vermont or multi-state RN licensure.
• Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing experience.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable personal transportation as public transit is unavailable.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Meditech electronic health record system.
• Previous medical-surgical nursing experience in a rural or critical access hospital setting.

Special Considerations:

• Position primarily serves adult patients but may occasionally include pediatric patients; pediatric-only RNs are not appropriate.
• Flu vaccination is mandatory with no exceptions.
• Reliable personal vehicle required due to lack of public transportation and rideshare services.
• Credentialing documents must be submitted five business days prior to start date.

Scheduling:

• Night shift position.
• Shift assignments within a general Med/Surg unit.
• Work schedule designed to support 24/7 hospital operations in a critical access setting.
