Join our growing team today! 1. Energy Auditing & Site Assessments Conduct detailed on-site energy audits of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. Evaluate existing Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC) for operational efficiency and control strategy effectiveness. Identify deficiencies in sequences of operation, control loops, sensor accuracy, and equipment performance. Collect, trend, and analyze field data (temperatures, flows, pressures, run times, etc). Perform Level I–III ASHRAE energy audits as required. Document existing conditions and provide actionable recommendations for optimization. Collect and distill Utility billing data for consumption and spend 2. DDC Controls Optimization & Analysis Review and validate existing DDC control sequences for HVAC systems (AHUs, RTUs, CHWs, HW systems, VAVs, etc.). Develop improved control strategies to optimize: Energy efficiency Comfort Equipment lifecycle Perform reprogramming or provide detailed sequences for controls contractors. Analyze and resolve issues such as: Simultaneous heating & cooling Improper economizer operation Poor setpoint management Implement demand control strategies (e.g., supply air reset, chilled water reset, static pressure reset). Utilize trend logs and analytics tools to identify optimization opportunities. 3. Energy Modeling & Simulation Develop building energy models using tools such as: eQUEST EnergyPlus / OpenStudio TRACE 3D / HAP Calibrate models using utility data and field measurements. Evaluate energy conservation measures (ECMs), including: Control system upgrades Equipment retrofits Operational changes Quantify projected energy savings, cost savings, and ROI. Support measurement & verification (M&V) using IPMVP methodologies. 4. HVAC Systems Performance Analysis Analyze performance of key HVAC systems: Chilled water plants Hot water systems Air handling systems Ventilation systems Identify inefficiencies such as: Equipment short cycling Excessive ventilation Poor part-load performance Perform load calculations and compare against actual system operation. Evaluate system capacity vs. demand to identify oversizing or control issues. 5. Controls Design & Sequence Development Develop detailed HVAC sequences of operation aligned with: ASHRAE guidelines (e.g., Guideline 36) Owner project requirements (OPR) Specify control points, sensors, and instrumentation. Support the design of new BAS/DDC systems or retrofits. Review and approve control submittals, shop drawings, and sequences. Participate in or lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts. Verify proper installation and operation of controls and HVAC systems. Develop and execute functional performance tests (FPTs). Identify and correct operational issues post-installation. Provide recommendations to improve system reliability and efficiency. Utilize BAS data, cloud analytics platforms, or fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) tools. Develop dashboards and KPIs for energy performance monitoring. Conduct ongoing monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx). Identify anomalies and recommend corrective actions. Implement automated fault detection rules. 8. Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) Development Identify, develop, and prioritize ECMs such as: Setpoint optimization Scheduling improvements Advanced control logic Equipment upgrades Develop cost estimates and financial analysis (NPV, IRR, payback). Prepare technical reports and business cases for stakeholders. 9. Utility & Incentive Program Support Support utility rebate and incentive applications. Provide required documentation, calculations, and savings estimates. Coordinate with program administrators and verify compliance requirements. 10. Documentation & Reporting Findings Energy savings opportunities Financial analysis Develop sequence of operations documents and control narratives. Maintain accurate records of system configurations and changes. Present findings to clients, facility teams, and stakeholders. Work closely with: Mechanical engineers Controls contractors Facility managers Commissioning agents Provide technical guidance during installation, startup, and optimization. Support project execution from concept through implementation. 12. Compliance & Standards Ensure all work aligns with: ASHRAE standards (e.g., 90.1, Guideline 36) Local energy codes Sustainability initiatives (LEED, ENERGY STAR) Stay current with industry trends in smart buildings, IoT, and advanced controls. 13. Training & Knowledge Transfer Train facility staff on BAS/DDC operation and optimized control strategies. Develop documentation and standard procedures for ongoing operations. Strong understanding of HVAC systems and psychrometrics Experience with trend analysis and data-driven decision making Proficiency in energy modeling tools Knowledge of control sequences and optimization strategies Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and energy codes Benefits include paid vacation, 50% 401K match program up to 4% of gross pay, Safe Harbor company contribution 3% of your annual salary, a company supplemented health insurance program, plus employer paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability.
