Patient Care Technician, SNICU (40 hours, Nights)

Position: Patient Care Technician Department: Surgical Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit Schedule: 40 hours, Nights, E/O Weekend About the Surgical Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) Department at Boston Medical Center The Surgical/Neuro Science Intensive Care Unit (SNICU) is a 28‑bed unit that provides post‑operative care to BMC’s most complex patients, including trauma, neurology, cardiac surgical, vascular surgery, and general surgery cases. Position Summary As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services, participate in the delivery of care to our patients and families, and work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to meet patient, family, and staff needs. Job Responsibilities Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions, such as obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, and providing emotional support. Clean rooms and linens, and assist with environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes. Job Requirements A high school diploma or GED certificate. Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment). Ability to pass clinical competency testing. Physical ability to meet job responsibilities. Basic math and computer proficiency. One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting. Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation. Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training program. Completed an approved certified medical assistant training program. One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only). Fluency in another language (a plus). Previous medical/surgical experience preferred. Job Benefits Competitive pay ($23.19–$27.17 hourly). Tuition reimbursement programs.
