The Safety Manager plays a critical role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment across our construction, ready-mix, fleet, and maintenance operations. This position leads the safety team, ensures compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, oversees workers’ compensation matters, works closely with the company’s insurance provider, and supports the recruitment and onboarding of qualified DOT drivers.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary: $100,000–$130,000, depending on experience

Fleet and Driver Responsibilities

• Oversee safety and maintenance compliance for the truck fleet.
• Lead the recruitment of qualified DOT drivers, including sourcing, interviewing, screening, and coordinating pre-employment requirements.
• Manage CDL driver onboarding and ensure all DOT hiring requirements are completed before drivers begin operating company vehicles.
• Maintain accurate and compliant driver qualification files.
• Manage DOT-regulated drivers through the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, including required queries, reporting, and documentation.
• Monitor hours-of-service requirements and driver compliance.
• Enforce applicable DOT driver and vehicle regulations.
• Manage fleet telematics and analyze driver-performance and behavior trends.
• Develop corrective measures to reduce preventable vehicle incidents, violations, and insurance claims.
• Prepare for and manage internal and external DOT audits and inspections.

Safety and Compliance Responsibilities

• Oversee OSHA general industry, DOT, and fleet-safety compliance, with a strong focus on ready-mix trucks and maintenance-shop operations.
• Conduct regular safety audits and address identified hazards or compliance concerns.
• Oversee employee safety and compliance training, including required certifications and renewals.
• Develop and administer lockout/tagout and stored-energy-control programs.
• Manage silica-exposure and respiratory-protection programs.
• Address risks involving heavy equipment, mobile equipment, pedestrians, and vehicle interactions.
• Manage vehicle incidents and serious workplace incident investigations.
• Identify root causes and oversee corrective and preventive action plans.
• Oversee workers’ compensation claims, injury reporting, return-to-work programs, and communication with employees, medical providers, and insurance representatives.
• Work closely with the company’s insurance provider on claims, audits, risk-management recommendations, and loss-prevention initiatives.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Build and manage safety KPI dashboards to monitor trends and measure performance.
• Coach managers, foremen, and shop supervisors on safety expectations and accountability.
• Partner with operational leaders to develop practical safety solutions that support both employee safety and business needs.
• Lead the company’s response to regulatory audits, inspections, and requests for documentation.
• Develop strategies to reduce TRIR, preventable vehicle incidents, and insurance claims.
• Report safety performance, trends, incidents, and compliance concerns to the Operations Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five to 15 years of experience in fleet safety, heavy transportation, construction, or a related industry.
• At least three years of experience in a safety leadership or management position.
• Experience recruiting and onboarding CDL or DOT-regulated drivers.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA Clearinghouse, driver qualification files, hours-of-service requirements, and workers’ compensation processes.
• Experience managing regulatory inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety-performance metrics.
• MSHA surface-mining experience is preferred but not required.
• Proven ability to influence operational leaders and build a collaborative, solutions-focused safety culture.
